The City Council of the City of Okeechobee, Florida, met in regular
: 0 session at the City Hall at 7: 30 P. M: on the above date, and the following were

Councilman Hunt proposed the following Ordinance and moved its adoption.
Motion was seconded by Councilman Nix and carried:
ORDINANOE NO. 202
AN ORDINANOE PROVIDING FOR THE LEVY AND COLLEOTION OF TAXES
FO~ THE-YEAR 1940 FOR THE CITY OF OK~EOHOBEE, FLORIDA.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY or
OKEEOHOBEE, FLORIDA:
Section 1. That the City of Okeechobee,Florida,
horeby levies a tax-of 68 mills on each dollar valuation of
real and personal property within the corporate limits of the

City of Okeochobee, Florida., for the year 1940; such taxes
shall be assessed and collocted in the manner provided by law,
(] PROVIDED HOWEVER, that no taxes shall be assessed against home-
steads having a valuation of $5,000.00 and less; homesteads
0 having a valuation of more than $5,000.00 shall be assessed on
such amounts in excess of $5,000.00, except as provided in
Section 2, of this ordinance.
Sect ion 2. That 27 mills of such tax shall be used
for Goneral City purposes and shall be assessed for the general
fund of said City. That ten (10) mills of such tax shall be
assessed for the payment and satisfaction of that certain judg-
ment obtained by Yeoman's Mutual Life Insurance Company, against
I O. the City of Okeechobee, Florida; said judgment having issued out
I of the U. S. District Court of tho Southern District of Florida,
a copy of which is recorded in tho offico of the Clerk of Circuit
Court of Okeechobee County, Florida. That five (5) mills of such

to.x shall be used for tho payment and satisfaction of the balance ;,iL";
due on that certain judgment obtained by Pauly Jail Butllding '"
Company, a corporation, and recorded in the office of the Clerk of '
Oircui t Court of Okeechobee Oounty, Florida. That fifteen (15)
mills of such tax shall be used for the payment of that certain
judgment obtained by E. T. McGaulley against said City of Okeecho-
bee, in the U. S. District Court of the Southern District of Florida
and rocorded in the office of the Olork of Oircuit Court of Okee-
chobee County, Florida. That ten (10) mills of such tax shall be
assessed for the purpose of complying with that certain peremptory
writ of mandamus in that certain cause pending in the Oircui t Court .
of Okeochobee County, Florida, Wherein STATE OF FLORIDA ex rel
OHAMPION SPARK PLUG OOMPANY, a. corporation was relator and the City I'
of Okeøchobee was respondent, which said peremptory writ commanded
the said City to levy a writ sufficient to pay the sum of 12,687.54,
if said taxes were collected in full on the tax roll for the year
1941. That one (1) mill of such tax shall be assessed for the pur-
pose of satisfying that 'certain judgment obtained by one Edward
Parraddee against said City of O~oechoboo, Florida. That all of
said levies herein set forth shall be assessed against all homesteads,
regardless of value, within the City of Okeechobee, Florida, except
tho following:
27 mills assessed for General Fund.
10 mills assessed for judgmont of
Yeomans Mutual Life Insurance Company.
1 mill assessed for judgment of Edward
Parraddee.
Section 3, It ah~l be the dmy of the T= Collector of I
said City and the City Clerk of said City, to divide the proceeds
received from said tax as aforesaid, into the funds set out in 4IÞ
Section 2, of this ordinance, and keep full and correct account of
the same as they may be directed by the City Council.
Section 4. All ordinances, or parts of ordinances, in
conflict herolli th, be and the same are hereby repealed. .
Section 5. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect
upon ~ts passage by the City Council and approval by the Kayar.

The City Clerk presented the Tax Roll for 1940 and announced that same
completed, thereupon Councilman Hunt moved that the City Clerk attach his warrant
thereto and deliver same to the City Tax Collector.
Upon motion of Councilman Hunt, duly seconded and carried, the City Tax
Collector was authorizod and instructed to grant the following discounts in Tax
collections: For the month of November, 5~; December 3~; January2!fo.

The City Council of the City of Okeechobee, Florida, met in regular
adjourned session at the City Hall at 7:30 P. M. on the above date, and the
following were present: H. H. Raulerson, President of the City Council, Oòunoi1men
: 'U .. Swa.in and lIix, with Alto .at ford, City Clerk; R. C - Evans, Speoiril Policeman; and
N. O. Stewart, Fire Chief, in attendance.
Petitions were presented to the Council requesting that certain persons
be designated as Candidates in the General City Election to be held December 3,1940.
Tho Council examined each petition and found them to be signed by more than twenty-
five qualified olectors of said City. Upon motion of Councilman Swain, duly seco~d !
