I AM REQUESTING A VARIANCE ON MY PROPERTY TO PUT A STEEL
DOUBLE-CAR CARPORT ON MY PROPERTY DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF MY GARAGE,
WHICH IS 43 FT. FROM THE STREET. MY GARAGE AT THIS TIME IS ALMOST FULL
OF SEVERAL PIECES OF EXERCISE EQUIPMENT AND THERE IS NO ROOM FOR A
VEHICLE. THE EXERCISE EQUIPMENT IS NECESSARY FOR MY HUSBAND'S
PHYSICAL THERAPY, AS HE IS A DISABLED VETERAN, WHO ALSO HAS DIABETES
AND HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE. I DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH ROOM IN MY HOUSE FOR
THIS EQUIPMENT, WHICH WOULD DAMAGE THE INTERIOR FLOORS.
THIS CARPORT WOULD NOT DETRACT FROM THE NEIGHBORHOOD, AS
THERE ARE SEVERAL SIMILAR CARPORTS IN ALL OF OKEECHOBEE ESTATES.
ALSO, SEVERAL OF THE EARLIER-BUILT HOMES ARE BUILT ON THE SET-BACK,
AND THEREFORE CLOSER TO THE STREET THAN MY CARPORT WOULD BE.
YOUR CONSIDERATION IN THIS MATTER WOULD BE GREATLY

The City of Okeechobee Board of Appeals Planning Board meet on the 3rdThursday of each month beginning

Subject: Authorization and Responsibilities Associated with Securing Permits,
DISCLOSURE STATEMENT
State law requires construction to be done by licensed contractors, You have applied for a permit under an exemption to that law, The exemption
allows you, as the owner of your Property, to act as your own contractor with certain restrictions even though you do not have a license, You must
provide direct, onsite supervision of the construction yourself You may also build or improve a commercial building, provided your costs do not exceed
$5,000, The building or residence must be for your own use or occupancy, It may not be built or substantially improved for sale or lease. If you sell
or lease a building one (I) year after the construction is complete, the law will preswne that you built or substantially improved it for sale or lease,
which is a violation of this exemption, You may not hire an unlicensed person to act as your contractor or to supervise people working on your building,
It is your responsibility to make sure that people employed by you have licenses required by state law and by county or municipal licensing ordinances,
You may not delegate the responsibility for supervising work to a licensed contractor who is not licensed to perform the work being done, Any person
working on your building who is not licensed must work under your direct supervision and must be employed by you, which means that you must deduct
F .LC,A. and withholding tax and provide workers' compensation for that employee, all as prescribed by law, Your construction must comply with all
applicable laws, ordinances, building codes, and zoning regulations,

applicant to construct a carport which will encroach into the front setback requirements. Mr. Dulmer
reinforced the position of denial, adding that doing so would attribute to others on the street applying for

Board Member Burroughs asked about the drawing submitted concerning the position of the garage. Mr.
Dulmer answered that the carport had been enclosed to create the garage, and now the applicants want
another carport.
Chairperson Ledferd asked whether the owners were present and would like to address the Board. They
were not present. Chairperson Ledferd then added, there needs to be a hardship to grant a variance, there
does not appear to be one here. Chairperson Ledferd asked whether there were additional comments or
discussion? There were none.
