M. on the above date and the following were , pres~: H. H. HMcock, M~or, Alto Watford, President of City Co~cil, Co~cllmen J. D. Brett, A. W. Brass and J. H. Walker, Sr. ,with R. P. Fletcner, City Clerk, and L. L. Conrad in attendance. On motion of Councilman Brett, seconded by Councilman Brass, Council adjourned to meet at 7.30 o'clock P. M. March 9th, 1934. President Watford being absent President Pro-tern. Walker presided over meeting. Minutes of meeting~ held February'6th, 193~ were read and approved. Councilman Brett moved that Council meet in regular session at City Hall on First Tuesday in each month at g o'clock P. M. from April 1st to September 30th, motiån seconded by Councilman McCarthy and passed. Messrs. C. A. Fulford, B. L. Jennings, Sr. and Wm. Griffis addressed Council Drainage \1 relative to sale of $25,000.00 Eagle ~Bonds owned by City to owners of lands in Ii ,I Eàgle Bay Drainage District. Action on matter was deferred unti}, meeting on March 14th. 1: Ordinance No. 151 was proposed by Councilman McCarthy, who moved its adoption, motion seconded by Councilman Brett and passed: I ORDINANCE NO. 151 AN ORDINANCE IMPOSING A LICENSE TAX ON NON£RESIDENT DEALERS IN AUTOMOBILES, AT RETAIL, IN THE CITY OF OKEECHOBEE, FLORIDA; FIXING THE AMOUNT OF LICENSE . FU AND p~SœIBING A PE~LIT roo T~ VI~ATION œ SAIÐ =I~CE. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MATOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF OKEECHOBEE, FLORIDA. Section 1. No person firm or corporation who is a non-resident of the City of Okeechobee, Florida, shall engage in the business of the sale of automobiles, trucks, etc., at retail within the corporate limits of the City of Okeechobee, Florida, unless a City license shall have been procured from the Tax Collector of said City and attested in the name of the City Clerk and the corporate seal of said City im- pressed thereon by the City Clerk, whose fee for attesting and placing the seal thereon shall be twenty-five cents, paid by the person or persons, firm or corpor- ation taking out said license. Section 2. The license tax as provided in section one shall be in the sum of Twenty ($20.00) Dollars per annum, and shall be issued in like manner as provided for ~he issuance of other occupational licenses by the Ordinances of said City. . $ec~10n 3. Any person, firm or corporation violating any of the provisions of this Ordinance, shall, upon conviction be punished by a fine not exceeding , Fifty Dollars, or by imprisonment in the City Jail not exceeding Thirty days. Section 4. This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect immediately upon its passage by the City Council of Okeechobee, Florida,and approval by the Mayor thereof. Read a first time and by unanimous vote passed to a second reading. Read a second time and by unanimous vote passed to a third and final read. I On motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Brett, Council approved I I surety bond of L. L. Pursuant to adjourmment, the City Council of the City of Okeechobee, Florida, met at the City Hall at 11.00 o'clock A. M. March 14th, 1934 and the following were i I present: H. H. Hancock, Mayor, Alto Watford, President of City Council, Councilmen A. W. Brass, J. D. Brett and J. H. Walker, Sr. with R. P. Fletcher, City Clerk, G. I C. Durrance, City Attorney, L. C. Tootle, Water Superintendent in attendance. The following Resolution was offered by Councilman Brett, who moved its adop- tion, motion seconded by Councilman Brass and passed: RESOLUTION WHEREAS, The farmers of the Eagle Bay Drainage District are negotiating with agencies of the Federal Government looking to the re-financing of the indebtedness of said farmers concerning amounts due on their lands in said district, including the amount due for Bonds issued by said district, and, WHEREAS, the City of Okeechobee, Florida, 'is the OWner and holder of a large I number of said bonds, to-wit: Twenty-five Thousand of the value of Twenty-five thouSMd Dollars, with accrued interest, ~, I I WHEREAS, The farmers of said district, through their regular constituted representatives, have requested the City of Okeechobee to co-operate in the working out of said re-financing proposition heretofore referrs1 to, by agreeing to accept a stipulated price for the bonds held by said City, and, WHEREAS, The City Council of Okeechobee, Florida, is desirious of aiding the agricultural development of Okeechobee County, and believes it to be of great interest to the entire County and tax payers thereof, that the financial difficulties of the farmers of the Eagle Bay Drainage District, as well as the farmers of the entire County, be, so far as possible, relieved of their present financial embarr- assment, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, That the City of Okeechobee, Florida, will accept the sum of five percent flat, for the bonds held by said City, provided, however, that. this offer is made upon the expressed condition, that said bonds are to be delivered to the agency aiding in the re-financing herein referred to, and cancelled by said agent, and provided further, that this offer is made for the purpose of aiding the farmers aforesaid, and not for the purpose of merely disposing of sAid bonds.
