The 01ty Council of the City of Okeechobee, Florida, met in regular sesslon at the 01ty Hall at 7.30 o'clock P. M. on the above date and the following were present: J. Denham Bird, Mayor, Alto Watford, President of 01ty Council, Councilmen A. W. Brass, D. B. McOarthy, J. H. Walker, Sr., and Victor Domer with R. P. Fletcher, City Clerk, L. L. Conrad, Ohief of police, L. O. Tootle, Water Superintendent and G. O. Durrance, City Attorney in attendance. Minutes of February 7th, 1933 were read and approved. ORDINANOE NO. 141 was proposed by Councilman Walker, Who moved its adoption, motion seconded by Councilman Brass and upon being put to a vote was passed and adopt ed: 0 R DIN AN 0 E No.14l AN ORDINANOE IMPOSING AND PROVIDING FOR THE OOLLEOTION OF OERTAIN LIOENSES AND OTHER TAXES IN THE CITY OF OKEECHOBEEý. PRESORIBING PENALTIES FOR DOING BUSINESS WITHOUT LIOENSE AND REPEALING AN ORDINANOE IN OONFLIOT HEREWITH. Section 1. No person, firm or corporation shall engage in or manage any business, profess- lon or occupation mentioned in this ordinance within the corporate 11mits of the City of Okeechobee, Florlda, unless a Oi ty "License shall have been procured from the Tax Collector of said City and attested in the name of the City Clerk and the corporate seal of said Oity impressed thereon by the City Clerk, whose fee for attesting and placing the seal thereon shall be twenty-five cents, paid by the person or persons, firm or corporation taking out said license. Section 2. All licenses shall be payable .on or before the first day of January of each yea~, and no license shall be issued for any fractional portion of a year excep~ as otherwise provided in this ordinance, and except that any license not otherwise specified may be issued after the flrst day of July to expire January first upon payment of one-half of the amount fixed as a price of such license for one year. Section 3. All licenses may be transferred with the approval of the City Clerk, with business for Which they were taken out when there is a bona-fide sale and transfer of the prdlperty used and employed ln the business as stock in trade but such transferred license shall not be good for any longer tlme or fo~ any other place than that for Which it was originally issued. Section 4-. The payments of a license under this ordinánce shall not legalize gambling or the sale of intoxicating liquors. Section 5. Every retail dealer in gasoline or other llgbt products of petroleum ln the City of Okeechobee, Florida, under Whatever name designated, shall pay a license tax of FIVE DOLLARS per annum. Every person, firm or corporation dealing in crate material or other receptacle used for packing and shipping og fruits or vegetables or other commodity, shall pay a license tax of FIVE DOLLARS per annum. Section 7 Every person, firm or corporation conducting a hotel or rooming house in the City of Okeechobee, Florida, containing accomodations for five persons and less than ten persons shall pay a license tax in the sum of $2.50 per annum. Sectlon 8. Every person, firm or copporation engaged in the keeping, storing, caring for or repalring automobiles or other vehicles propelled by gasoline, belmnging to the public, shall pay a license tax of FIVE DOLLARS per annum. Section 9. All confirmed cripples or invalids, physical incapable of manual labor, or all confederate veterans of the 01vi1 War, and widows who are dependent upon their own exertions, shall be allowed to engage in any legitimate business in the City of Okeechobee, Florida, without paying a license to do so. Section 10. Any person, firm or corporation engaging in any business herein mentioned, without first securing a license as provided in this ordinance, shall be punlshed as provided ln Ordinance number 126, Section 6. Section 11. All Ordinances in conflict with the provisions herein contained are hereby expressly repealed. Section 12. Thls Ordinance shall be in full force and effect immediately upon its passage by the City Council of Okeechobee, F1orlda, and approval by the Mayor thereof. Read a first time and by unanimous vote passed to a second reading. Read a second time and by unanimous vote passed to third and final reading. Mayor Bird stated that meeting of Council had been called for the purpose of consldering matters relative to the Fire Department. H~ C. Chandler tendered his resignation as Chief of the Fire Department of the Clty of Okeechobee, Florida, effective April 1st, 1933, and on motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Oouncilman Domer,- Council accepted his resignation. effective Aprills~,1933. Pursuant to call of the Mayor, the City Council of the City of Okeechobee, Florida, met ln special session at the City Hall a~ 5.00 o'clock P. M. on the above date and the following were present: J. Denham Bird, Mayor, Alto Watford, President of City Council, Councilmen D. B. McOarthy, J. H. Walker, Sr., Victor Domer and A. W. Brass with R. P. Fletcher, City Clerk, L. L. Conrad, Chief of Police and L. C. Tootle Water Superintendent in attendance. Mayor Bird stated that meeting of Council had been called for the purpose of considering the appointment of a Chief of the Fire Department of the City of Okee- chobee. Applications for Chief of the Fire Department were received from the following: J. A. Underhill, W. S. A. Henderson and W. D. Milner.
