Administrator Gary Ritter RE: Patrol cars to be purchased The City Police Department is requesting authorization to purchase 4, 2023 Dodge Charger Police Pursuit units. This purchase would be from the 2024/25 budget. Woody Folsum CDJR in Georgia has new, left over inventory, sitting on the lot. This is the same dealer we used last year. I've been quoted $35,200 per car being they are 2023-year models. Total purchase price for 4 units will be, $140,800. We paid $38k per unit last year. I feel this is an excellent way to save some money on this year's fleet. These are the last of the 2023-year models and we couldn't find an comparable at that price anywhere else. I have not received a production date on the new 2025 Charger Police Units. What I have read is, the Hemi V8 has been replaced by a twin turbo 6-cylinder engine. I do not feel it would be wise to purchase the new units, the first year out. Turbo charged motors produce more heat that requires an intercooler to help cool the engine. Police cars sit running for long periods of time. I don't feel it was a smart move for Chrysler to be using the new turbo charged engine in the Police market without offering an V8 option. It's literally putting all their eggs in one basket. Only time will tell on the durability in this application.
