Good Morning Ms. Raia.
I read your email dated 5/16/23 that was received into the record at last evening's Planning Board Meeting
(May 18, 2023) regarding Land Development Text Amendment Application No. 23-003-TA regarding
storm shutters. The Planning Board made a recommendation to the City Council to approved the
proposed ordinance with the last sentence:
Coverings which remain on the structure pursuant to this subsection shall be designed or painted to match
or complement the color of the walls or trim of the building of Section 90-84(b) to be stricken.
The proposed ordinance is tentatively scheduled to be heard by the City Council on June 20, 2023 for 1st
Reading and July 18, 2023 for Final Public Hearing.
Hoping you are doing well and should you have any questions, just let me know.
Regards,
Patty vt. Burnette

Subject: Storm shutter questions and comments
Patty-please let me know you received this.
Thank you for giving consideration to those residents who are seasonal, concerning putting up and taking down of their
storm shutters.
I have some questions about the proposal.
When it stated the shutters would have to be painted to match or compliment the color of the walls
or trim of the
building:
Are you thinking the shutters to paint would be wood?
What if the shutters are metal? Paint metal?
What if the shutters are clear plastic? They are made that way to allow some light in during the day.
Paint the storm shutters the color of the: trim? What if your trim is black, brown, red, or some other dark color
and your house is white or some other light color?
Could the shutters be the color of your roof? Like a metal roof?
The ordinance said it will take effect immediately when it is passed. What if there are seasonal shutters already
up and the seasonal people are not in Florida to take care of making sure they are in compliance because they
do not know of any potential changes or requirements?
I think it is great that those who are seasonal can let the City know they will have shutters up by going through
your web site instead of having to come in and fill out a form.
Thank you for taking into consideration those who are seasonal. Shutters on our homes while we are not in
Okeechobee offers some "peace of mind" that our homes will be protected in case of a hurricane and also offers
another layer of protection and security in general while we are gone.
Thank you.
