Historical Marker and Small Matching Grants
To whom it may concern,
The City of Okeechobee has invested around $100,000 in the purchase and subsequent
restoration of the Primitive Baptist Church located at located at 1003 SW Avenue, Okeechobee,
Florida. The Church has been part of the City's heritage since the early 1900's and it's been the
mission of the Okeechobee City Council to preserve as much of the heritage of the community
whenever possible.
The Council has recently entered into a partnership with the Okeechobee Historical Society in
an effort to restore the Church and create a historical museum in the Church. In support of this
partnership the Council has encouraged the Historical Society to apply for various grants to aid
in the restoration and development of a museum.
The City Council of the City of Okeechobee welcomes and approves of Okeechobee Historical
Society's request to apply for a Historic Marker to be placed at the Primitive Baptist Church.
Sincerely,
Mayor Dowling Watford Jr.
