The Church has been part of the City's heritage since the early 1900's and it's been the mission of the Okeechobee City Council to preserve as much of the heritage of the community whenever possible. The Council has recently entered into a partnership with the Okeechobee Historical Society in an effort to restore the Church and create a historical museum in the Church. In support of this partnership the Council has encouraged the Historical Society to apply for various grants to aid in the restoration and development of a museum. The City Council of the City of Okeechobee welcomes and approves of Okeechobee Historical Society's request to apply for a Historic Marker to be placed at the Primitive Baptist Church.
