NEW BUSINESS A. Ms. Alaina Barron, Executive Director, presented an update regarding the Educational Foundation of Okeechobee utilizing a 12-slide power point [as presented in Exhibit 3]. She identified the mission of the Foundation as "The Education Foundation of Okeechobee is a non-profit organization committed to supporting the students and staff of Okeechobee County Schools in their vision of achieving excellence." She explained she is the first Full- Tirne Executive Director, is an Okeechobee native and alumna of Okeechobee High School (OHS), has a Master's in Education, with years of experience, and has shared excitement and goals for enhancing the community and futures of not only our local students, but its teachers as well. IThe Foundation has a scholarship program that, last year: -haa participating local donors, received $255,000 in donations, distributed 216 scholarships, and impacted 78 OHS studentsAThe Foundation provides mini -grants to support Okeechobee County teachers through a dollar -to -dollar matching program. Last year, $21,255.00 was donated which allowed the Foundation to provide $42,510.00 in mini trants._t7he Pencil Depot" program is a free teacher market that provides much needed supplies into the hands of students and teachers, reducing teachers from using their personal income to purchase supplies for their classrooms. For the current school year, 61% of teachers participated.(The Foundation is increasing the "economic opportunities and social mobility in Okeechobee" by assisting local students with securing financial aid �. for college.
