1928-10-26 Special 249 'I I, Okeechobee, Florida, October 26, 1925. ./ "Pursuant to advertisement in the Okeechobee News, a newspaper published in Okeechobee, Florida, the City Council of the City of Okeechobee, Florida, met in special session in the City Hall at 7.30 0 t clock P. M. fox th.8 purpose of reviewing and equa.1i zing the City tax assessment roll for the year 1925 as prepared by the City Tax Assessor and the following were present: J. Denham Bird, Mayor, Don. P. Johnston, President of City Council, ~ouncilmen Ben Walker, H. L~ ~ûandler and H. H. Hancook with R. P. Fletcher, City Clerk, L. W. -1ennings, City Attorney and Lon stewart, Chief of Police in attendance. The City Tax Assessor presented the City Tax Assessment Roll for the year 1929 - to the City Council for review and equalization. ., Dr. H. C. McDermid appeared before Council and requested reduction in assess- t- ment of Lots 1 and 2, Block 155. Mr. J. G. McNeff appeared before Council and req- uested reduction in assessment of Lots 7 and. 8, Block 154. Mr. W. P. Underhill :i appeared before Council and requested reduction in assessment of Lots 7 and 5, Block 156. Judge G. C. Durrance appeared before Council and requested reduction -in assessment of Lots 7 and 8, Block 149 and the following described land: Begin 395 ft. North of SE corner of Sec. 21, run West 361 ft., North 152 ft., East 361 ft. South 152 ft., Section 21, Township 37, South, Range 35 East. Mr. Nathan Zelmenovitz appeared before Council and requested reduction in assessment of Lot 12, Block 165. Oouncilman Walker moved that Oounci go into executive session, motion seconded by Councilman Chand ler and carried. Oouncil resumed open session. On motion of Councilman Hancock, seconded by Councilman Walker, Council denied request of Dr. H. .C. McDermid fo+ reduction of assessment of Lots 1 and 2, Block 155 r On motion of Councilman Walker, seconded by Oouncilman Chandler, Council denied request of Mr. J. G. McNeff for reduction of assessment of Lots 7 and 8, Block 154. - On motion of.Oouncilman Chandler, seconded by Councilman Walker, Council denied request of Mr. W. P. Underhill for reduction of assessment of Lots 7 and 8, Block IB6. On motion of Oouncilman Walker, seconded by Councilman Hancock, Council denied ¡equest of Mr. Nathan Zelmenovitz for reduction of assessment of Lot 12, Block 165. On motion of Councilman Walker, seconded by Councilman Hancock, Council denied request of Judge G. O. Durrance for reduction of assessment of Lots 7' and 8, .Block 149. On motion of Councilman Chendler, seconded by Councilman Hancock, Council approved assessment of $5,000.00 as fixed by the City Tax Assessor on the following r- described property: Begin 395 ft. North of SE corner of Section 21, run West 361 ft. North 152 ft., East 361 ft., South 152 ft., Section 21" Township 37, South, Range 35 East. . M. for the purpose of preparing and adoptin$ a budget for the City of Okeechobee for the year 1929 and the following were presen1: J. Denham Bird, Mayor, Don P. Johnston, President of City Council, Councilmen H. L. Chandler and Ben Walker with R. P. Fletcher, City Clerk, L. W. Jennings, City Attor~ ney and Lon Stewart, Chief of Police in attendance. Councilman Chandler moved that Clerk be authorized to transfer the following amounts: $1,650.00 from I&S Paving Bond Fund *5 to General Fund; $430.00 from I&S 1924 Bond Fund #17 to I&S Paving Bond Fund #5; $100.00 from I&S 1927 Bond Fund #21 to I&S Paving Bond Fñnd #5; $250.00 from 1&8 1924 Bond Fund #17 to Park Fund; $400.00 from I&S 1924 Bond Fund #17 to Fire Protection Fund; $100.00 from General Fund to Water Fund Ill, motion seconded by Councilman Walker and carried. J enll.ings $500.00 as full pay- ment of attorney fees in connection with 1928 refunding bond issue, motion seconded ~ by Councilman Chandler and carried. Councilman Chandler moved that City pay Snedegar & Baya $250.00 as retainer '- in case of Union Indemnity Company Vs. City of Okeechobee, motion seconded by Coun- cilman Walker and carried. reported Councilman Walker7to Council that committee had sold City motor cycle for $50.qo. Councilman Chandler moved that Council approve sale of motor cycle for the sum of $50.00, President Johnston called Councilman Walker to the .Chair and seconded the motion Which was carried. President Johnston then resumed the chair. Councilman Chandler moved that the following budget of the City of Okeechobee, - .Florida, for the year 1929 be adopted by the City -Council, motion seconded by I Councilman Walker and carried, BUDGET OF THE CITY OF OKEECHOBEE, FLORIDA FOR THE YEAR 1929. .
