The Oi ty of Okeechobee is in default on bond interest. We have an I:
approved issue, $55,000.00 refunding bonds which we have been unable to mar- :!
keto The question therefore resolves itself into one of forced, mutual under- :'
standing between the City and the several companies interested. in the prior,
issues. The recent storm intensifies our difficulties and adds new problems ,:
locally.. There is no alternative to the bond companies carrying us, for one or I
two years.
In order to put the matter in workable shape I suggest that the
companies interested have their representatives meet with the Oounci1 at Okee-
chobe.e at 3.00 P. M. , Octo"ber 23l looking toward the joint purchase of this
refunding issue. The handling off~~e situation in this manner will afford ~
relief to the companies customers and at the same time give the City an oppor-
tunity to re-establish confidence and restore the property owners to a tax
paying status. -.,
Yours very truly,
Don P. Johnston,
President City Council.
Mr. H. B. Craven, representing The Hanchett Bond Company; Mr. E. F. Slayton,
representing W. L. Slayton & Company; Mr. R. W. Erbe, representing C. W. McNear &
Company appeared before the Council relative to the sale of $55,000.00 ref~ding
bonds. Each of the above named gentlemen recommended that Council postpone the
City tax sale for delinquent taxes of the year 1927 until refunding bonds have
been sold.
Several citizens and property owners were present at the meeting and the fol-
lowing stated their approval of the recommendation that the City tax sale for
delinquent taxes of the year 1927 be postponed until refunding bonds ~ave been sold:
Messrs. Albert Berka, J. G. McNeff, J. D. McCarthy and Nathan Zelmenovitz.
Oouncilman. Chandler moved that H. B. Craven, representà.tive of the Hanchett -:
Bond Company be given an option for a period of thirty days from the date of this
meeting, for the purchase of City of Okeechobee refunding bonds, issue of 1928. in. ~,
the sum of $55,000.00 at the price of their par value plus accraed interest from
their date to date of payment, motion seconded by OoWlcilman Walker and carried.
Councilman Chandler moved that Oi ty tax sale for delinquent taxes of the year
1927 be held on Monday January 7th, 1929, motion seconded by Councilman Walker
and carri ed.
