Students who meet regularly with mentors are less likely to start drinking, use drugs, skip school, or have declining mental health. They are more likely to participate in extracurricular activities and to attend college as well. WS Sere? Okeechobee is a Title I district, meaning that the percentage of low-income students in every school is high enough that the government provides additional funds, recognizing that students from low-income families often need extra supports to succeed. Our schools range in poverty level from 54% to 77%, which indicates that most of our students need these extra supports. Mow coo I become a .ne t or? Complete an application that includes a reference check, fingerprinting, criminal background check, and a face-to-face interview. Applicants will also complete a volunteer application through the OCSB District website as well as a questionnaire designed to find points of compatibility with mentees. Each mentor will also complete a comprehensive twelve hour training, broken down into four 3-hour blocks. Mien, ire, low do we meet willA & nwn&ea? Mentors will meet with their mentees only on the school campus during school hours once a week for at least 30 minutes. Mentors should be prepared to make at least a 1-year commitment.
