The City Council met in regular session at 7:30 o'clock P. M. on the J
above date and the following were present: H. H. Deya.rman, President 01 ty Council; ~ "
Councilmen: H. T. Btes, J. D. Bird, H. H. Hancock and L. F. Scharfschwerdt with
R. P. Fletcher, 01etk; L. W. Jennings, City Attorney and Clint Bass, Chief of Police
in attendance.
Minutet of melting held November 17th were read and approved.
Messrs. Watford, Alderman and Bowen appeared before CoUncil relative to
closing of building occupied by Laura Upthegrove and known as "Motor Inn".
Upon mOtion by Councilman Hancock, seconded by Councilman Bird, Council
in~tructed City Atttrneyto prepare an ordinance declaring a house of ill fame a ~
nuisance.

,! It shall be and is hereby made unlawful for any person, persons, fir
Ii or corporatiC)n to own or operate a house or houses of ill fame, or house or houses 0
prostitution or gambling or disorderly houses within the corporate limits of the Cit
II of Okeechobe., Florida, and such houses be and the same are hereby declared nuisance.
I.
Ii Section 2. The Chief of Police of the C1 ty of Okeechobee, Florida is

~ hereby empow~2ed and it is made his duty to remove the inmates or tenants of a house
of ill fame, house of prostitution, gambling or disorderly house therefrom, and to

II Section 3. The frequenting of a house havin~ the reputation of being
II a house of i1l fame or a house of prostitution by men who do not reside at such hous

¡Ibetween the hours of ten o'clock P. M. and five o'clock A. M. shall be prima facie
~evidence that it is a house of ill fame or a house of prostitution and
(Of such housts by men as set out in this section hereinbefore, when seen by any poli e
Ii officer of tIe Ci ty of Okeechobee, Florida shall be considered a breach of peace in

¡i the presence of the officer and authorize and empower such officer to arrest all

¡persons in stch house or houses as inmates thereof without a warrant, and shall

¡authorize and empower such officer to enter such house for the purpose of making
I
¡SUCh arrest tr arrests.
i Section 4. This ordinance shall take effect immedlately upon its
