1981-15 Transportation FundingRESOLUTION NO. 81-15 WHEREAS, the Legislature of the State of Florida is considering ways and • means to raise additional revenue for road and bridge construction and mainte- nance; and WHEREAS, various methods have been proposed including placing the sales tax on gasoline purchases or allowing local governments the option of a gaso- line tax upon a referendum approving same; and WHEREAS, it is likely some form of transportation funding will be approved at this session of the Florida Legislature with distribution of said funds to be broken down as to the state and local governments; and WHEREAS, the City of Okeechobee supports additional transportation fund- ing with an equitable distribution of the additional revenues to state and local governments; and WHEREAS, the Florida League of Cities supports the division of thelocal share on a fifty-fifty basis as to the counties and the cities; and WHEREAS, the City of Okeechobee supports the League position and urges the adoption of a funding formula recognizing the need of additional funding for the cities and an equitable distribution formula, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Okeechobee, Florida as follows: 1) The members of the Florida House Transportation Committee and the members of the Florida Senate Transportation Committee be, and they hereby are, respectfully requested to approve additional transportation funding dur- ing this session of the legislature and to provide an equitable distribu- tion formula to allocate the additional revenues between the cities and the counties for much needed road construction and maintenance. 2) That certified copies of this resolution be furnished to each member of the House Transportation Committee and the Senate Transportation Commit- tee, the Speaker of the House, the Honorable Ralph Haben, the President of the Senate, the Honorable W.D. Childers; members of the Okeechobee County legislative delegation, the Honorable William G. (Doc) Meyers, member of the House of Representatives, the Honorable Dale Patchett, member of the House of Representatives, and the Honorable Pat Neal, member of the Florida Senate and the Florida League of Cities. 3) This resolution shall take effect as provided by law.
