1956-02-07 RegularMayor Raulerson stated that the purpose of the meeting was to consider the adoption of a ~uildi~g Code fort he City of Okeechobee. Bob ~ess, ~anager of Chamber of 'Commerce, Rep Nathan ZelmenOvitz, G. E. Bryant, Jr. an~ Councilman R E. Chandler discussed with the Council their investigation of the butldi~ code used in Pahokee, Belle Glade and Stuart and after discussion and consideration~iCouncilman Chandler moved to accept the 1953-1954 Revision of the Southern Stan d Building Code with the provision that the Council will have the authority to'r~vise code whenever they deem it necessary, seconded by Councilman Gardner· Upon roll call the following vote was taken: Yeas - Claude Gardner, Roderick E. Ch,nd/er,:~ A. W. Harden, and J. L. Rhymes - Nays - None. Passed on firs~ reading this 24th day of January A. D. 1956. Upon;imotion the Council adjourned. Counciiman Ch~dler moved that all rules be waived, and that said Ordinance N~i. 272 be placed upon its fifial passage, which was unanimously ~ agreed to. J. l!losvern appeared before the Council stating that untaged dogs in her neighborhood wi~re causing a disturbance and had become a nuisance. She also issued complaint as t~ the offensive odors caused by a co~m~ercial fisherman dressing fish on adjoining proi~erty.~ The Council advised that the fish matter shoul~ be taken care of by the !~tate Board of Health and that the dog situation would be looked into. ~ Audley Dunh ~n reported that several of the street marker posts had been knocked down ~d brok n ~ad ~ggested that the. motorist ~h.o committ~ld offen~e ~ ould pay for having ihem replaced. The Comncil advised that they were in the 45 h process of h~ing the post replaced. Dunham representing the Garden Club offered aoomplaint as to birds being killed by guns within city. He was advised to report the name of perso~s violating law and matter would be investigated. Florida State Sanitary Code was also presented by Bryant but was advised t~at the City had previously adopted said code. Councilman Gardner reported the need of additional street lights and after discussing the need Councilm~m Ch~dler moved to have three lights erected at the following locations: Cot ~er of '7th Street and Hicpochee St. Nor ~h Park in front of Bus Station Han .ock Street Corner of Avenue C. Motion second .d by Councilman Gardner and carried. Clerk to advise Florida Power and Light Com ~any of action. Carter 1,000.00 Ann .e Nae Johnson ~ SO0.O0 The! traffic situation around the sChool buildin~ was discussed by the Council and ~on~. persistent reports of violators the Chief of Police was requested to patrol the~ area during certain school hours. The Council also agreed to have the "Resume Speed" on the school zone signs on Parrott Avenue painted out so as not to mislead moto~sts. Also agreed to see that the school zone signs were removed from street as so~ as possible after school was dismissed each day. .Up~ motion the Council adjourned. ,
