1983-10 Homestead ExemptionRESOLUTION NO. 83-10 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF OKEECHOBEE, FLORIDA REQUESTING THE FLORIDA LEAGUE OF CITIES TO SUPPORT LEGISLATION TO CHANGE THE HOMESTEAD EXEMP- TION LAW TO PROVIDE FOR THE TAXING OF THE FIRST TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS OF PROPERTY VALUE AND EXEMPTING THE NEXT TWENTY FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS OF VALUE. WHEREAS, the present Homestead Exemption Law has severly reduced tax revenue to th cities of the State of Florida; and WHEREAS, in many cities one quarter to one third of the residents pay no taxes wha soever; and WHEREAS, it would be more equitable to develop a formula where all residents would pay a small tax; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OKEECHOBEE, FLORIDA as follows: 1. The City Council requests the Florida League of Cities to adopt, endorse and submit to the Florida Legislature at its next session a resolution or other appropriate document requesting a change in the Homestead Exemption Law to provide for the taxing of the first ten thousand dollars of value of residentiā€¢ property and the exemption of the next twenty five thousand dollars of value in order to spread the tax burden more equitably between the residential and commercial sections of the community. 2.
