A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OKEECHOBEE, FLORIDA
REQUESTING THE FLORIDA LEAGUE OF CITIES TO SUPPORT LEGISLATION
• AUTHORIZING CITIES TO DEVELOP REASONABLE USER FEES FOR THE FURNISH-
ING OF POLICE AND FIRE PROTECTION THROUGH SPECIAL ASSESSMENTS OR
CREATION OF SPECIAL TAXING DISTRICTS TO ENCOMPASS THE ENTIRE AREA
WITHIN THE MUNICIPAL BOUNDARIES OF SAID CITIES.
WHEREAS, the present level of Homestead Exemption has severly restricted city
revenuesfrom ad valorem sources; and
WHEREAS, more innovative ways of delivering police and fire services to city
residents must be developed; and
WHEREAS, the Florida Legislation can authorize cities to develop new sources of
revenue outside of the ad valorem tax base;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OKEECHOBEE,
FLORIDA as follows:
1. The Florida League of Cities is hereby requested to endorse and submit to
the Legislature of the State of Florida a resolution or other appropriate
document supporting Legislation authorizing cities to develop new and
innovative sources of revenue for the furnishing of police and fire pro-
tection within the city limits through either special assessments, user
fees or creation of special taxing districts.
2. This resolution shall take effect upon its adoption.
