1953-11-02 Regular 869 The following Warrant was ordered entered in the minutes of the Council: WARRANT OF ASSESSOR To Carlisle A. Thomas, Tax Collector of the City of 0keech~bee, Florida: ~--' Your are hereby commanded to collect out of the property and from each ~ of the persons, firms, corporations named in the annexed Assessment Roll~ and ta~es set down on said Roll opposite each name or parcel of land there- in described, and in case the taxes as extended are not paid by the time prescribed by Law, you are to collect same in the manner prescribed by Law, all money collected you are to account for to the City Council of the City of 0keechobee, Florida, and you are further required to make collections and Peport and a final report to and settlement with the City Council of said City as required by law and ordinances. Wilson, Jr. was reviewed and upon motion by Councilman Watford, seconded by Councilman Thomas and car~ed, was accepted. Mayor Haulerson reported the need of white way light repair. The Council agreed to investigate matter. Councilman Coker brought before the Council the question as t o whether the City would agree to close certtin streets leading to the proposed site of the Florida Palms, Inc. when plant begins construction. The Council agreed to corporate in this matter and to do what would be necessary in behalf of the industry. Councilman Watford moved that the City deed to J. N. Roe, Sr. that portion ! I of First Street East of Parrott Avenut ~ th the understanding that Roe give to the City an Easement on said property, seconded by Councilman Thomas and carried. Upon motion the Council adjourned. Cora Blanton appeared before the Council in regards to her property located in Original Town of 0keechobee, Lots 4V to 51 inc., Block 202. Improvements to Hancock Street was discussed by the Council. Councilman Roe presented the Council with a proposition from J. C. Rogers, regarding an extension of the water main to Colored Town. Matter referred to Water Committee and Attorney for investigation. Joe Bongiovanni appeared before the Council requesting a $1,000 building peEnit to remodel building on Lot 6, Block 161, City of 0keechobee. Councilman Roe moved to grant said peEnit, seconded by Councilman Thomas and carried. A building application from 011in E. Morgan in the amount of $1,000 was pre- sented and upon motion by Councilman Coker, seconded by CoUncilman Watford and carried, said permit was granted. Councilman VJatford presented specifications fox a $15,000 building to be erected on Lots ll and 12, Block 156, City of 0keechobee and requested a permit for same. Councilman Coker moved to grant permit, seconded by Councilman Thomas and carried. Councilman Watford moved that t~he City Clerk be authorized to settle all Street paving and Sewer Liens at 10% of original assessment, seconded by Councilman Thoma and carried. Councilman Roe presented the following Resolution and mo~ed its adoption and upon being seconded by Councilman Watford was put to a vote~ and unanimously adopted: RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the Council of the city of 0keechobee, Florida, did, on the 8th day of ~a~ch, 1948, pass a resolution purposing to close and/or vacate North and South Curve Streets, and WHEREAS, It is now advised that the City council of 0keechobee, Florida, is not authorized by law ~o close, vacate or abandon the public streets of said city,~ by "resolution," and WHEREAS, thm said North and South Curve Streets were dedicated to the "public" by the 0keechobee Compsny Inc., as shown by a plat of said city, and WHEREAS, the cotuncil of the said city,of 0keechobee, Florida, considers it essential and expedient to correct the error hereinbefore scs out, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED by the council of 0keechobee, Florida, that the resolution, dated Narch 8th, 1948, and recorded and/or filed on May 7th, 1948, be and the same is hereby resinded, vacated and set for naught, and that the said North and South Curve Streets be retained as "Public" streets, according to the "Dedication" as shown by the plat of the City of 0keechobee, Florida, in the public records of said city aforesaid. BE IT FURRIER RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution be recorded in the Bubltc Records of 0keechobee County, Florida. Passed in open, regular session, this the 2 day of November, 1953. R. E. Due to the financial status of the city at this time the Council was unable to make requested donati( but agreed to help in t~e near future. Upon motion the Council adjourned. Willis, seconded by Councilman Coker and carried. The Clerk was instructed to notify Florida Power and Light Co. of action. Leo Bratton, Commander of local American Legion was present and requested permission from the Council to make a rifle range on American Legion grounds. Bratton assured the Council that it would be made safe for the public and would be used only when~supervised by Legion members. The Council agreed to grant permission in the event that there were no public complaints. ~'~rs. Polly Carter discussed withthe Council plan~ f~ the home she is build- ing in Southwest section of City. The Council advised her to complete sanitary facilities before completing her home.
