WHEREAS, the land lying between Riverside Drive as hereinbefore set
out, and Meridith Avenue, is a"Public Park" and as such, is the
property of the city of 0keechobee, Florida, now therefore -
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF 0KEECHOBEE, FLORIDA,
that She 0keechobee County Chamber of Commerce, be and it is hereby
granted permission to construct and maintain said boat deck as herein-
before described.

The City Tax Assessor pm esented the City Tax Assessment Roll for the yea~
1953 for review and equalization.
President Chs~dler announced that the Council would receive and consider
objections to the valuation as fixed on said Tax Roll by the City Tax Assessor. No
objections were received by the Council.
Upon motion Councilman Watford moved that the City Tax Assessment Roll for
the yea~ 1953 aa prepared by the City Tax Assessor be accepted and said Tax Roll
returned to the City Tax Assessor for completion. Motion seconded by Councilman Roe
and carried.
Councilman Warlord presented the following Ordinance and moved its adoption,
and after being seconded by Councilman Thomas was put to a vote and unanimously adopted:
ORDINANCE NO. 259
AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE LEVY AND COLLECTION OF TAXES
FOR THE YEAR 1953 FOR THE CITY OF 0KEECHOBEE, FLORIDA.
BE IT 0RDIANED BY ~HE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CItY
OF 0KEECHOBEE, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1. That ~he City of 0keechobee, Florida, hereby levies
a tax of 23 mills on each dollar valuation of real and personal
property within the corporate limits of the City of 0keech~bee,
Florida, for the yea~ 1953; such taxes shall be assessed and
collected in the manner provided by law, PROVIDED HOWEVER, that
no taxes shall be assessed against homesteads, having a valuation
of not more than $5,000.00 for the General Fund of said City.
SECTION 2. That 8 mills of such tax shall be used for General
City purposes and shall be assessed for the General Fund of said
City. That 15 mills of such tax shall be assessed for the interest
and sinking fund for the payment of interest and principal of
General Refunding Bonds, Issue of 1942, of said City.
SECTION 3. It shall be the duty of the Tax Collector of said Ci~-y
and the City Clerk of said City, to divide the proceeds received
from maid taxes as aforesaid, into the funds set out in Section 1
of this Ordinance and keep full and correct account of same as t hey
may be directed by the City Council.
SECTION 4. All Ordinances, or parts of Ordinances, in conflict here-
withbe, and the same are hereby repealed.
SECTION 5. This Ordinance shall b e in full force and effect upon its
passage by the City Council and ~pproval by the Mayor.

The representative from Wilson Life Insurance Company, Mrs. G. J. Holmes
again discussed the group Insurance Plan with the Council. The Council advised Mrs.
Holmes that they were agreeable in endorsing the plan but it was entirely left up to
the employees am to the choice of insurance company they prefer.
Chief of Police Thomas stated the need of school zone signs, the Council
agreed that the matter be taken care of.

Fire Chief Hancock presented the Council with data on Fire Prevention Week.
The Council referred matter to Chief Hancock.
Councilman Watford moved that Attorney Du~rance be authorized to have photo-
made 'of any records that were necessary, seconded by Councilman Roe and

Councilman Roe moved to grant all churches free use of the City Water and
to cancel all outstanding bills any church might have, seconded by Councilman Watford
and carried.
Councilman Roe repc~ted the need of street repairs on Fourteenth Street in
South 0keechobee. A general discussion on drainage and street repairs was heard. The
Council agreed to place and order for l0 pieces of 18 inch - 20 foot lenghts coated
culvert and bands. Also the Council agreed to place an order for a car load of street
patching material.
A petition f~om the 0keechobee Baseball Club was read, requesting that the
City Council include in the forthcoming budget the amount of $800.00 for financial aid
in this project. The Council agreed to give request consideration and ordered p~tition
filed.
The Council instz-ucted the attorney to prepare Ordinance on Sewer Tappa ge
Fees and monthly charges and ~esent at next regular meeting of the Council.
Upon motion by Councilman Wat£ord, seconded by Councilman Roe and unanimously
carried the following budget for the year 1954 was unanimously adopted:

A question as to the City Police Department radio and the charge on same assess-
ed by the State Highway Patrol was discussed also the matter of the City obtaining a per-
mit to operate same. The matter was passed for further consideration.
Councilman Roe moved to adopt a Resolution desiginating the dyke as "Hoover
Dyke", seconded by Council Watford and carried. The following is the Resolution:
RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, the Eake 0keechobee Section was visited by a severe Hurricane
in the year 1928, causing millions of damage to property and the loss
of several hundred lives, and
WHEREAS, Hon. Herbert Hoover, who was then President of the United
