The City Council of the City of 0keechobee, Florida, met in regular session
at the City Hall at 7:30 P. M. on the above date with the following present: Mayor
H. H. Raulerson, President Chandler, Councilmen Coker, Roe and Thomas with G. C.
Durrance, City Attorney and Irena Williams, assistant Clerk.
Minutes of the meetings held June 8 and 24, 1953, were read and approved
as read.

A letter from Anthony Caso stating that a fence had been placed across

Kissimmee Street adjoin/ his property, depriving adjoining property owners use of this
portion of said street. After discussi~ matter, Councilman Thomas moved to have fence
owner contacted and have him removed the fence, seconded by Councilman Roe and carried.
By letter Joe sigmund offered for sale to the City a tractor loader. The
Council discussed offer, but decided to postpone action indefinitely.
A discussion to open Kissimme Street between Ninth and Eleventh Avenues,
which opens that street to the hospital and open Kissimmee Street at ~the~ various
places was heard. Council agreed to have work done.
Marvin Mobley discussed the need for pipe in order to complete the work to
open the above street at d~signated places. Councilman Roe moved to purchase necessary
pipe for this Job, seconded by Councilman Thomas and carried.
The ~ecessity of employing a building inspector was discussed. Councilman
Thomas moved to employ Fred Thomas as building inspector, and to receive a fee of
fifty per cent of the building permit cost~ seconded by Councilman Coker and carried.
Increase in future water deposits was discussed. Councilman Roe moved to
increase water deposits hereafter to $10.~0 to help eliminate deliquent water bills,

seconded by Councilman Coker and carried.
0tin Lee appeared in behalf of H. L. Shepperd, with a blue print for a $10,000,
six unit Motel, to be built on Block 76, on Parrott Avenue. After discussing matter
Councilman Thomas move~ to grant said permit, seconded by Councilman Roe and carried.
Clerk was instructed to issue permit.
E. H. Barry ~iscussed d~iver's license law in the City. Council instructed
Attorney Durrance to check into laws governing driver's license.
Marvin Moble2 pointed out the urgent need for road patching material. Council-
man Coker moved to purchase one car load of said material, seconded by Councilman Thomas
and carried.
The need for two additional street lights was discussed. One to be located on
corner of Kissimee Street and Ninth Street, and one to be located on Hicopochee Street
and Third Street. Thomas moved to have these street lights installed, seconded by Counci
man Coker and carried. Clerk was instructed to w~ite letter to the Florida Power and
Light. Company authorizing the installation.of these lights.
Willie Faison (colored) appea~ed with five other colored persons, from Colored
Town and requested that the City install a water line to colored town, that would take
care of more water connections, as there were a number of people wanting to have water
installed. Council discussed matter and instructed Councilman Roe to contact Supt.
Kinsaul and work out the matter.
