1952-07-07 Regular 325 June 10, 1952 The City Council of the City of 0keechobee, Florida, met in special called session at the City Hall on the above date at 7:30 P. M. with the following present: · Mayor H. H. Haulerson, President Chandler, Councilmen Roe, Thomas and Watford with Durrance, City Attorney and Lorena Spivey, Ci~ Clerk. May or Raulerson stated that the purpose of .this meeting was to discdss with Jack Greenly, County Health Officer and John Woodard~ Sanitarian, the sewer situation at Markham Brothers Canning Plant. After discussion the Council agreed that the Clerk write a letter to Markham Brpthers, stating that the city sewer serving the cannery would have to be discontinued at the close of present season., and that the canning plant in the future would have to.furnish their own-sewerage disposal system due to the financial condition of the city they were unable to help them. Upon~motion the Council adjourned. Conely, Jr. a~peared before the Council in regard~ to three ($) I & S Refunding Bonds that were given him by the City for services rendered during the Bond Refunding program. The City coUncil deceided to purchase said bonds from said owner at 100% face val~e. Councilman Watford moved to purchase the three $500.00 bonds seconded by Councilman Thomas and carried. Mrs. 0. L. Hunt appeared before the Councilas principal speaker in behalf of the swimming pool project. The matt~er was thoroughly discussed, but the major problem seemed that the County could take no further action in the program until the city made a move to begin the project. The City Council agreed to take over project and '326 stated that $7,500.00, including $5,000.00 from th. County and $2,500.O0 from City is availabl, now, and th. $7,500.00 would be put in a sep.rat, fund, to b. known as the SWIMMING POOL FUND, and that all t~ri~a~, subscriptions and donations b. mad. to th. City Clerk, who will issue receipts for monies and deposit them in the SWIMMING POOL fI FUND. The City promised to start i~mmediate action on this program, and the Council agreed unanimously to set up $2,500.00 ir_. their Budget' for 1955 for the SWIM~ING POOL FIR D. N. F. Kinsaul, Water Supt. discussed plans for keeping the city water depart- ment truck at the city water works plant at all times except when on a city Job. Each water d~partment e.~.~ployee will have to furnish his own transportation ~to and from water plant. The Council agreed ~t wou~ cut t~uck maintenance cost. Water Supt. K!nsaul also asked for a $80.00 a month increase in his salary. After discussion Councilman Watford moved to grant the~Water Supt. the $~0.00 a month increase in salary to become effective the 1st of Jaty 1952~ seconded by Councilman Thomas and carried. Marvin ~obley discussed the possibility of the city purchasing a new truck for the Sanitary Dept. A discussion on the matter was heard and it was deceided that needed repairs on the ~ld truck would cost more than the truck was wort~. Gilbert CU~breth~offered the city a 1981 Chevrolet Truck fcr $1,8~.8~ which give a big discount Councilman Hoe moved to purchase said truck from Gilbert Culbreth on time, seconded by Councilman Thomas and carried.
