1952-01-07 Regular 314 RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the County of Okeeehobee, I~lortda, under the Provisions of Chapter 220?9, Laws of Florida, Ac.ts of~1943, foreclosed the deliquent taxes and took title under said foreclosure, to the following deseribed lan~s: Lots 7, 8 and 9 of Block 45, First Addition to South Okeechobee, according to plat thereof recorded in the office of Clerk of Circuit Court of Okeechobee County, Florida, and WHEREAS, subsequent to sueh foreclosure, on November 20, 1944, said lands were sold by s aid County of Okeechobee, to W. H. Chandler, and, WHEREAS said Chapter 22079 provides that the City of Okeechobee, as the municipality in which said land is loeated, participate ~in the proceeds of the sale of such lands by said County of Okee- chobee, as isa share of such deliquent taxes, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Okeeehobee, that the City Clerk be and .she is hereby authorized and re- quested to eancel all City of Okeechobee taxes and special assessements levied agains, t said above described lands for the yaar 1944 and all prior years, which are unpaid or deliquent. Co.- Water Dept.---- - ........ .548.82 The following 0rdinanee was presented by Councilman Roe, who moved its adopt- ion and upon being seconded by Councilman Williams was put to a vote and unanimously ad~pted: 0 R D I N A N C E N O. 248 AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING A LICENSE TAX'FOR CIRCUSES, TRAVELING SHOWS OF ALL KINDS, INCLUDING VAUDEVILLE, MINISTRELLS, THEATRICAL, CARNIVALS, OR ANY EXHIBITIONiGIVING PERFORMANCES UNDER TENTS OR TEMPORARY STRUC~JRES OF ANY KIND, WHE~ER SUCH TENT~ OR TEMPORARY STRUCTU~{ES ARE COVERED OR UNCOVERED, AND PROVIDING A PENALTY FOR THE VIOLATION THENEOF. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OKEECHOBEE, FLORIDA: SECTION 1. It is unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to engage in the business of traveling shows, exhibitions or amusements enterprises, inclmsing circuses, eax~m~vals, vaudeville, ministrel, rodeos, theatrical games and test of skill, riding devises, or other shows and amusements operating in tents, enclosures, or temporary structures, whether cowered or umcovered within the boundaries of the city of Okeechobee, Florida, without hawing first obtained from the Clerk of the city of Okeechobee, Florida, a permit se to do, SECTION ~. All shows named and included in Section 1 of this Ordinanee, shall pay to t~he city of Okeechobee, Florida, a license tax for each day as fellows: When t~he charge for admission, including the charge for reserved seats, shall be fifty eents or more, TWENTY#FIVE DOLLARS FOR EACH DAY;. Ihen the charge for admission, including the charge for reserved seats, shall be twenty-five cents and less than fifty cents, FIFTEEN DOLLARS FOR EA CH DAY; When the charge for admission, including the charge for reserved seats, shall be less than twenty-five cents, TEN DOLLARS FOR EACH DAY, PROVIDED, that any of the shows senti ~ned in this 0rdinanee which have paid a license according to the charge £oP admission, as provided in this ordinance, shall be allowed to operate a "si~e show" upon payment of the following license tax: If the admission charge, including the charge from reserved~seats for the main show or structure, shall be fifty cente or more, the license tax for the "side show" shall be TEN DOLLARS FOR EACH DAY, If the admission charge, including the charge for reserved seats for the main show or exhibition or structure, shall be twenty-five cents and less than fifty cents, the license tax fo~'the"side shew" shall be SEVEN DOLLARS AND FITY CENTS FOR EACH DAY. If the admission charge, including the charge for reserved seats, for the main show, exhibition or attraetion shall be less than twenty?five cents, the license tax for~the "si~e show" shall be FIVE DOLLARS FOR EACH DAY. PROVIDED, that no license shall be issued for a "side show" unless a license has been paid for the main show, exhibition or structure; and provided further, that both license shall be issued to the same person and for the same day. SECTION 5. Amy peasen, firm or corporation violating the provisions of this ordinanee, shall upon convietlon, be punished by a fine of $250.00 Dollars, or imprisonment in the City Jail for a period of 90 days. SECTION A. Ail ordinances in conflict with the provisions of this 0rdinanee, are hereby repealed. This ordinance is hereby declared to be an Emergency 0rdinanee, SECTION 5. necessary forthe proper protection of the health, welfare and morals of the said city of 0keechobee, Florida. After diseussion Councilman Roe moved to adopt the following 0rdinanee and upon being seconded by Councilman Williams was put to a vote and unanimously adopted: ORDINANCE NO. 2A9 AN ORDINANCE FIXING A LICENSE TAX FOR AUCTION SALES AND RESCRIBING A ~'~ PENALTY FOR THE VIOLATION THEREOF. BE IT ORDAINED BY ~HE MAYOR AND THE GI TT COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OKEE- CHOBEE, FLORIDA: SECTION ONE~ It shall be unlawful for any person, firm or e~oration to sell or be engaged in the business of selling goods, ware, merehandise or other personal property at public auction until the said person, firm or corporation has paid to the clerk of the city of Okeeehobee, FloOds, 317 a license tax in the sum of ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS per annum. SECTION ?WO: Any person, firm or corporation violating the provisions --- of Section One of this Ordinance, shall be punished by a fine of not t exceeding Two Hundred and Fifty Dollars, or imprisonment in the City Jail for a period not exceeding ninety days. ' SECTION THREE: Ail laws and ordinances in conflict with the provisions of this ordinance are hereby expressly repealed. SECTION FOUR: This ordinance is hereby expressly declared te be an ime[,gency ordinance, necessary for the protection of the welfare of the i inhabitants o~ the city Sf Okee-¢hobee, Florida. H, H. Raulers on AYOR .... C~uncilman Roe brought before .the Council a complaint made to him by the Masonic Lodge, in regards to the waste water from the dray cleanex-s. The matter was referred to Councilman Watford. Mayor Raulerson discussed with the Council a letter from the Chamber of Commerce in regards tc placing name markers on the streets. The Council agreed that the Mayor and Marvin Mobley work on matter. Chief of Police Thomas reported on minors playing pool in the pool hall. OeUncil ~uggested that notes of approval from parent's be posted in pool .room. Street lighting was discussed. A request for a street light on the corner o of Dalton Brette and Bonnie Jones residence in South Okeechobee on Oseeela ~Street. President Chandler was requested to investigate the possibility of the erection of the said light. The danger of the above mentioned corner was discussed. The Council agreed to place a 1~ MPH sign at corner endeavoring to eliminate some of the speeding at this corner. ~ A letter fr~m Mrs. ~arion Lafeure was read and ordered filed. Mayor Raulerson brought before the Council the matter of trying to make " arrangements for the "Star Train" to have flag stops at Okeecbobee. The Council agreed for the clerk to write a letter of request to the Seaboard Air Line Railroad Company~ regarding this matter. Mayor Rau]erson brought before the Council the matter of selling the old fire truck. He stated that an offer of $200.00 had been made. Councilman Watford moved to sell old fire truck for $200.00, seconded by Councilman Williams~ and carried. ~POn motio~ .the~ Council adjourned.
