the C6uncil for the Laws and Rules Committee to employ night policeman.
The Council gave Fire Chief Hancock permission to teav. City limits on fir.
Water Supt. Kinsaul appeared in regards to City furnishing pipe from main to
property of persons wishing water connections. The Council dece~ded there would be to
great an expense, but agreed to make the water connections if property owners would
furni,~h the pipe. _

The City Council of the City of Okeechobee, Florida, met in regular session at the city
at 7:30 P. M.
Hall on the above date/with the following present: Mayor H. H. Raulerson, President
R. E. Chsmdler, Councilmen Roe,~ Thomas, Watford and Williams with Lorena Spivey, City

Minutes of the meeting held September 10, 1951, were read and appoved as read.
The following bills were approved and ordered paid when funds are available:

Glen Snodgrass, representing the American Legion, appeared and requested the City of
of 0keechobee to purchase two banners to be displayed d~ring the Legion Convention.
Councilman Roe moved 50 purchase the two banners, seconded by Councilman Watford and
carried. Mr. Snodgrass also requested t~at the City issue American Legion Club Room
License free of c~margc. He stated that if the City saw fit to grant this request that
by next year the Legion would be in such position that they would not have to request
any donation, i~ne matter was tabled for present. ~,~r. Snodgrass also stated that ~th®
American L~gion had a~;reed to donate land for the swimming po01.
Councilman Roe suggested that the City Occupational License Ordinance be revi&wed.
The need of water meters was brought before the Council by the Water Supt. and discussed
Williams
by the Council. Councilman/E~a moved to place order for 24 meters, seconded by Council-
man Roe and carried. The shortage of pipe used for the water mains was also discussed.
The Water Supt. was given authority to order l~eeded pipe. Tae Clerk was requested to
writ. for priory number.
It was stated that the Florida PoYer and [=gnt Company was unable to insta]~l street
lights at present due to the shortage of material. ~ouncil a~d to give to the

Florida Po~.ver and Light Company authority to install b!ink~r lights.
The matter of employing another policeman to work at night was brought before the Council
Councilman Roe moved that the Council go into Executive Session, seconded by Councilman
Williams and carried.
The Council came into open session and P~esident Chandler stated that the employing of
a night policeman was postponed indefinit~!y due to the financial situation of the City.
Consolidating the repair work of city, School Loard and County owned equipment was
discussed but no action taken.
The need of a new truck for the street and sanitary dept. was discussed. Councilman
Thomas moved to advertiz~ for bids on a new truck, seconded by Councilman Williams and
carried.
The Council agreed to place Marvin ~obley in charg~ of the street surveying.
Councilman Watford moved to grant the American Legion their request and issue th~ Club
Room license for one year free from charge, seconded by Councilman Thomas and carried.
Several items such as the following we~e discussed but no action taken: The balance
due Belcher Oil Company for street repairs. The sewer situation at ~arkham Brothers
Canning Plant and th~ question as to who owns the Park North of Y, arkham Brothers Plant~
A letter from Padgett's Servic~ requesting the gas and oil purchases for the month of
October was read. Councilman Roe moved togrant request and for the city to purchase
all gas and oil for the month of October from Padgett's ~ervice~ seconded by Councilman
Watford and carried.
Upon motion the Co~cil adjourned~ to meet October 8, 1951.
