at the City Hall on the above date at 7:30 P. M. with the following present: Mayor

Councilman Roe inquired as to the progress of t~e Attorney in preparing
new Ordinance regulating carnivals. Attorney Durrance stated t~ Ordinance would be
prepared in due time for carnival season. A letter from Okeechobee Woman's Club and
0keechobee Parent Teachers Assn. in regards to carnivals was read and ordered filed .
Councilman Roe brought before the Council t~e matter of z~ing certain areas of the city.
After discussion it was agreed that the Clerk write for fee of Engineer coming here
and making survey. Also Councilman Roe discussed with the Council the employing a full
time man to maintain the parks. After discussion Councilman Watford props~d to refer
matter to Par~s Committee.
Judge T..W. Conely,~n behalf of Okeechobee County Bank, appeared requesting
a permit to use a portion of side walk on South Park Street adjacent to the bank build~
lng for a Drive-In window to be used by persons desiring to do business with said bank
without leaving their cars for such purposes. Councilman Roe presented the following
Resolution and moved its adoption; ,seconded bY Councilman Watford; was put to a vote
and unanimously adopted:
RE S 0 L U T,I 0 N
WHEREAS, Okeechobee County Bank has made application for
a permit to use a portion of the sidewalk, on South Park Street,
adjacent to the bank building, for a Drive-In Service for persons
desiring to do business withsaid bank and
WHEREAS, said I~ive-In will be a ~onvenience to the citizens
of Okeechobee and to all persons desiring to use said Drive-In
service, and
WHEREAS, this Council has given due consideratiOn to said
application
NOW, ~qEREFORE, BE tT RESOLVED, that Okeechobee County Bank,
a Banking corporation located in the City of Okeechobee, Florida,
and its successors and assigns, be and they are hereby granted a
permit to use a portion of the sidewalk, on South Park Street, adjacent
to said bank building for the purpose of~erating a Drive-In service ,
for the convenience of all persons desiring to use such service; that
the expense of the alterations in the curb and sidewalk shall be borne
by said Okeechobee County Bank ahd that no such alterations be made
until apporved by,representative of the City Of Okeechobee.
BE IT F~RTHER RESOLVED that this permit shall remain in,full
force and effect at the pleasure of said bank. i/

Mr. Roach, Owner or R,ech Jeweler Company of th~s City appeared in
regard to Peddling of Merchandise within the City of Okeechobee. After discussion Mr.
Roach suggested that the Council adopt Ordinance prohibiting Peddlers doing business
under any circumstance. The Matter was tabled.
A matter of the City paying a repair bill on Alfred Watterson's car was
brought bef~e the Council and discussed. Due to the fact that he had been using his g ~
car to carry on his duties in the water deoartment the Council agreed to take care of ~m

the bill. Councilman Thomas moved to pay to J C White $21 40 for repair on car, .o
seconded by Councilman Watford and car~ed.
Bids on painting of water plant were opened and discussed. Due to the fact
that one bid was in detail and the other was not also the great difference in price,
Councilman Watford moved to table matter until desired work is outlined on forms and
given to interested bidders. Seconded by Councilman Thomas and carried.
A letter from George S. Brokway, Consulting Engineer was read also resolution
and contract providing for the supplying of engineering services in connection with '1
water and sewerage expansion program. Mayor Raule~ on stated that Mr. J. R. Durrance
was ~ eparing data on water and sewer system program and wished to meet with Council
at an early date. Therefore the matter from Brockway was tabled until later date.
A matter of installing bathroom facilities and water upstairs in the city
hall for use of the FL~e Chief was discussed. After discussion, the ~~l realizing
the need referred the matter to Councilman Watford, Chairman of F~e Committee

An Increase' in salary ~.or certain city employees was discussed. After which
Councilman Watford moved to increase the salary of the following employees $25.00 per
month; also to increase the attorney $10.00 per month, seconded by Councilman Roe and
carried;
RESOLUTION
WHEREAS the city council of the city of 0keechob$e, Florida, in
preparing the budget for the year 1951, did provide for the pay-
ment of salaries for certain city employees, as will more fully
appear from reference to said budget, and
WHEREAS, the city council is of the opinion that the salaries
paid said employees, does not fully compensate said employees for
the work performed by the~, and
WHEREAS, the cost of living has greatly increased during the past
several months which makes it imperative and adviseable to raise
the salaries of said employees, therefore;
BE IT RESOLV_.ED BY THE CITY COUNCIL that the s alarles of the follow-
ing employees be raised to the amounts set opposite their na~es, and
that the budget be and the same is hereby amenddd toread as follows:
