M. on the above date at City Hall with the ~,--. following present: President Chandler, Councilman Roe, Watford and Will~ams with i~ Durrance, City Attorney and Pearce, City Cl~rk. The Council. met for the purpose of opening bids on street improvement proJec~ and any other business that might come blfore the Council. Two bids were received. Belcher Oil Company ......... $2?,56?.§0 Williams & Stockton ......... 29,98?.40 Councilman Roe moved to accept bid from Belcher Oil Company ($27,567.50). Seconded by Councilman Watford and carried. The streets for repair to be designated by the Council. The bid as follows: 1 - 12,770 square yards S.B.R.M. 6" thick @ $1.10 $14,047.00 2 - 14,614 square yards S.B.R.~ 5" thick @ .75 10,960.50 ~ - 6,400 square yards Surface Treat'mt @ .40 2.560.00 Total 50% of the total final estimate upon completion and the bala~'~ be paid o~er a period of twelve months. ~ Bill Holt and Johnie Boromei, representing the kmerican Legion, appeared and requested permission to sponsor carnival for the Legion benefit Feb. 26 to Mar. ~. Also requested use of the base ball field or park in front of city hall. Council agreed to grant request to sponsor carnival and to use park. Resoluti~ ~/~ --- City the City of Okeechobee deem it Whereas, the Officials of necessary and to the best interest of the citizens of 6keechobee CoUnty that certain streets in said city, some of which have been ~reviously designated as state highways, be hard-surfaced or re- paired, and Whereas, the financial condidtion of said city is such that the cost of hard-surfacing and repairing said streets cannot be under- taken at the present, and Whereas, this Board~believes it Will be to the best interest of coUnty and its citizens that the hard-surfacing and repairing of said streets be udertaken immediately; and having given due con- sideration to said proposed project, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the City Officials be, and the~ are, hereby assured that, if said project is undertaken immediately and at a cost not to exceed ~0,000.00, this board will provide for the payment of one-half of such total cost in the budget for the year beginning October 1, 19~1. i That is said project is undertaken this board will budge~ a sum, not to exceed $15,000.00 of the proceeds to be received by Okee- chobee County. under the provisions of Section 16, Article 9, Con- stitution of FlSrida, and Chapter 26~21, Laws of FlOrida, Acts of 1949. Councilman Watford presented the following Ordinance and moved its adopteion and upon being seconded by Councilman Roe was put to a vote and unanimously adopted: ORDINANCE N0. ~ ~-~ BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF 0KEECHOBEE, FLORIDA: 1. It is hereby declared to bi,unlawful for any person, firm or corporation, to haw~ or peddle any good, wares or merchandise within the limits of the city of 0keechobee, Florida, without first paying a city lisense in the sum of Twenty Five DOllars, annually, provided, however, the provisions of this ordiance shall not apply to any person exempted under Section 205.15, Comp~ed Laws of the State of Florida, 1941. 2. Any person, firm or corporation violating the provisions 'of this Ordinance, shall be punished by a fine of not more than $50.00 dollars o~ be i~prisioned in the City Jail for not more than .80 days.
