ORDINANCE NUMBER 389
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 22 OF THE
CHARTER LAWS OF THE CITY OF OKEECHOBEE,
FLORIDA, TO PROVIDE THAT MEMBERS OF THE
CITY COUNCIL SHALL ELECT ONE OF THEIR
MEMBERS TO BE PRESIDENT OF THE COUNCIL
AND MAYOR: TO FURTHER PROVIDE THAT THE
AMENDMENT OF THE CHARTER AS SET FORTH
HEREIN BE SUBMITTED TO THE ELECTORS OF
THE CITY OF OKEECHOBEE AT THE NEXT
REGULAR ELECTION.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
OKEECHOBEE, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1. AUTHORITY. This Ordinance is adopted
pursuant to the provisions of Section 166.031 Florida Statutes,
and other applicable provisions of law.
SECTION 2. FINDING. It is necessary, desirable
and in the best interest of the City of Okeechobee, Florida,
and its inhabitants that the Charter of the City of Okeechobee
be amended to provide that members of the City Council shall
elect one of their members to be President of the Council and
Mayor.
SECTION 3. PROCEDURE. The City Council of the
City of Okeechobee, by adoption of this Ordinance, submits to
the electors of said Municipality the proposed amendment to its
Charter; and such proposed amendment shall be submitted to a
vote of the electors at the next regular election on December
7, 1976.
SECTION 4. AMENDMENT. That Section 22 of the
Charter Laws of the City of Okeechobee, Florida, be amended
to provide that members of the City Council shall elect one
of their members to be President of the Council and Mayor.
SECTION 5. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Ordinance shall
be effective immediately upon its Final Passage in accordance
with the procedures set forth in Section 166.041 Florida
Statutes.
SECTION 6. ELECTION. After the effective date of
this Ordinance the Charter Amendment set forth herein shall be
submitted to a referendum vote of the electors of the City of
Okeechobee, Florida, at its next regular election on December
7, 1976, and if passed, shall take effect January 1, 1979.

Notice is hereby given that the Ordinance described
below by title only will be placed on third and final reading
at the Meeting of the City Council of the City of Okeechobee,
Florida, to be held on November 4, 1976, at 1:30 P.M., at the
City Hall, or as soon thereafter as such Ordinance may be
read and considered for passage:

read and passed on first reading; by the City Council of the City of
Okeechobee, Florida, on the 21st day of September, passed on second reading
by title only on the 5th day of October, 1976, copy of said Ordinance was
made available at the office of the City Clerk to the public upon request
during the time between the first and third reading of the Ordinance, and
was duly read and passed on third and final reading on the 4th day of
November, 1976, by the City Council of the City of Okeechobee, Florida.
