0390 Mayoral ElectionORDINANCE NUMBER 390 AN ORDINANCE ABOLISHING SECTION 15 OF THE CHARTER LAWS OF THE CITY OF OKEECHOBEE, WHICH SECTION PROVIDES FOR THE PUBLIC ELECTION OF THE MAYOR OF THE CITY OF OKEE- CHOBEE, WHEN THE OFFICE IS VACATED BECAUSE OF DEATH, REMOVAL, RESIGNATION OR IMPEACH- MENT OF THE MAYOR: TO FURTHER PROVIDE THAT THE AMENDMENT OF THE CHARTER AS SET FORTH HEREIN BE SUBMITTED TO THE ELECTORS OF THE CITY OF OKEECHOBEE AT THE NEXT REGULAR ELECTION. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OKEECHOBEE, FLORIDA: SECTION 1. AUTHORITY. This Ordinance is adopted pursuant to the provisions of Section 166.031 Florida Statutes, and other applicable provisions of law. SECTION 2. FINDING. It is necessary, desirable and in the best interest of the City of Okeechobee, Florida, and its inhabitants that the Charter of the City of Okeechobee be amended to abolish the Public Election of the Mayor, when the office is vacated because of death, removal, resignation or impeachment of the Mayor. SECTION 3. PROCEDURE. The City Council of the City of Okeechobee, by adoption of this Ordinance, submits to the electors of said Municipality the proposed amendment to its Charter; and such proposed amendment shall be submitted to a vote of the electors at the next regular election on December 7, 1976. SECTION 4. ABOLISHMENT. That Section 15 of the Charter Laws of the City of Okeechobee, Florida, which provides for the Public Election of the Mayor of the City of Okeechobee, when the office is vacated because of death, removal, resignation or im- peachment of the Mayor, is hereby abolished. SECTION 5. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Ordinance shall be effective immediately upon its Final Passage in accordance with the pro- cedures set forth in Section 166.041 Florida Statutes. SECTION 6. ELECTION. After the effective date of this Ordinance the Charter Amendment set forth herein shall be a' • , submitted to a referendum vote of the electors of the City of Okeechobee, Florida, at its next regular election on December 7, 1976, and if passed, shall take effect January 1, 1977.
