A shelter fo~ the old fire truck was discussed but no definite action taken. Councilman Nix suggested a sewer proposal t~at he thought would, be benefical to the city. Okeechobee having been con~enmed in a previous meeting of the Council was discussed. Councilman Nix m~ved that Joe Bongiovanni be served with a notice stating that the city would begin a crew to salvage material f~om the building on March 18, 1950, if the above named person had not taken action. Motion seconded by. Counctlma~ Martin and unanim°usly carried. Th~ following business places garbage fee. were increased, du® to the increase in the amount of garbage: A &iP Sto~e.$6.00, Nix Apts. $3.00, Okeechobee ~railer Park $4.00, Page ?ou~ts~ Camp $4.00. Ma~kh~ Bros. was requested to repair rack or an increase in service would be made. Council Martin moved to issue a $10.00 license (City Occupational) to the Okeechobee Milk Company. Seconded by Councilman ~ix and carried. Council agreed to pay $490.00 to Republic Fire Hose Company f~om the cheek received f~a Okeechobee County and the balance to be paid on the fire truck. It was agreed by the Council to meet Monday March 13 to discuss City Occupational License. Seconded by Councilman Martin and unanimously carried. 252 The printing of water and garbage bills was discussed. Due to one of the printers not having been contacted C.ouncilman Nix moved to pay B~uce Flora £~ print- ing the previous month bills and to print them for the coming month. Also for the Clerk to contact the printers and get bids for next meeting night. Seconded by Council- man Martin and carried, Councilman Martin. moved that the City pay and old bill to Belcher Oil Corn- had beon parry. The bill m held fc~ information. Council in regard to the clean-up program for Governor's Day and requested the Councils, assistance in urging, the people in t he community to clean up their property. Ammon Mc Clellan reported the open wells that had been found in the city and re requested that the city have something done about them before some great hazzard occu~ed. Also he stated that a decorator would be here to decorate the city~ for Governor's Day and that the City Hall and a section of the City (Parrott Ave. at signal Light) would be decorated for $75.00. ~b~. Me Clellan stated that he hoped tha Council could see fit to have this done~ due to the~fact that the other businesses were having this done. 253 Mr. C. H. Parkerson presented the Council a statement from the Florida Power and Light Company for erection of nine street lights. The bill was approved and ordered paid when fun~k are available, CoUncilman Mc Dougald moved that the Mayor instruct the Chief of Police to notify Joe Boagiovanni that a crew of men w&~ld begin work on April 4, 1950 to tear down remains of old building located on Lots 7 and 8 Block 159 City of 0keechobee, Seconded by C.uncilman Ma~ttn and unanimously carried. Councilman Mc ~ougald reported that he had inspected the open wells and that they were very hazzar~!,ous. Councilman Warlord moved that the Clerk be instructed to notify the preperty owner and request them t o correct hazzard. Seconded by Council~ Mc Douglad ~and unanimously carried. Councilman Watford moved that the City pay $?5.00 for having the decoration for Governor's Day celebration. Seconded by Councilman Mc Douglad and carried. President Chandler reported that the American LaFrance Foamite Corporation had agreed to pay the freightf rom Wildwood to 0keechobee. Councilman Warlord moved to accept the papers and execute notes fc~ payment on fire truek. Seconded by Councilman Mai-tin and carried. Councilman Nix presented a bill from 0keechobee Builders Supply for work on manhole. Councilman Mc Dougald moved to pay the bill seconded by Councilman Martl. n and carried. Councilm .an Nix stated that h~e sewer proposal was not advisable. Mr. Gordon D. Arnold, ~Representative of Flexible Sewer-Rod Equipment Company was present and discussed ~ewer equipment. The Council agreed that they thought it would be an advantage to the city and would get the sewer system in good working condition. Upon motion by Councilman Watford seconded by Councilman Mart~n and unanimouily carried the Council agreed to place an order for the necessax-y sewer equipment f~om Mr. Arnold. Also to purchase pump from Domer's Machine Shop. It was agreed with Mr. Arnold to pay $50.00 plus freight as down payment and $50.00 per month on purchases from his company. Mr. 0. L. Hunt in behalf of the School appeared before th® Council and stated that their funds for wtilit~'ea ~e~e exhausted and requested the Council to carry over their water bills for April, May and June and that they would be in condition to pay them in July. Councilman Martin moved that the request be granted, seconded by Council- man Nix and carried. The need of blankets, fire extingusher and first aid kit for the police car was discussed.. Upon motion by Councilman Mc Douglad seconded by Councilman Martin and carried the Chief of Police was authorized to purchase the above items. Councilman Mc Doubled reported that the fire siren had been erected but it would cost approximately $75.00 to wire and install switches. Councilman Mc Doug&~d moved to instruct Pierce Electric Service to wire and install switches for siren, se- conded by Councilman Martin and carried. The Voluntee~ Fire Dept. reported that they had had 100 ~untor Fire Preventio~ Bureau of the Okeechobee Fire Depax~cment cards printed at a cost of $6.75. It was 'requested that the city defray half the cost. COUncilman Mc Dougald moved to pay the total cost of $6.75, seconded by Councilman Martin and carried. Bids were opened from Okeechobee News and Wayside Press for printing water and garbage bills. The bids were as follows: Okeechobee News $87;00 and Wayside P~ess $6~.99. Residents fro~ north sectic~ of the city appeared before the Council asking that something be done in regard to the odor caused by the Okeechobee ~allow Company. Mr. Smullin, owner of the plant was called before the Council in regard to this matter and he assured the Council that the odor would be done away with as soon as the plant good working order. Mr. Bmullin requested that the culvert to was completed ~nd in the plant be put in and it was reported that the culvert had been ordered and would be put in as soon as they arrived. Albert Ezell appeared in regard to moving the white way on North Park Street for the road improvement. It was repo~ted that the county had agreed to take care of the expense on such things theeefore the Council suggested that he contest the
