The City Cotmcil of the City of 0keechobee, Florida, met in regular x~a~a~
session at the City Hall at 8:00 P. M. on that above date with the following present:
President Pro-tom Martin, Councilmen Mc Dougald and Watford with Lorena Pearc. e, City
Clerk.
Building application for J. S. Ellis was presented and upon motion by Council-
man Watford, seconded by Councilman Mc Dougald and carried the permit was ordered
issued upon payment of fee.
Due to this being a holiday the Council adjourned to meet July 11, 1949.

Fritz Scharfschwerdt appeared before the Council in regard to his water bill.
After discussion the Couucil agreed to in~tall new meter at the time the meters were
read in July. It was also agreed to send meter taken out to factory and h~ve it check-
pr~ed the reading was wrong some adjustment wou]_d be made.

Building permits were discussed. Councilman Martin moved that the Nayor
instruct the Chief of Police to notify persons that were building without pe. rmits
to obtain pe~it or stop building. The following persons were named to be not~fied
and anyone else that might be building: J. L. Robbins, Joe Presoott, L®en.Williams,
Mack Mitchell and Filmore Sloan. ~he Clerk was authorized to issue permits to the
above ~pon p~esentation of application.
Councilman Mc Dougald moved that the Clerk be authorized to use own discretion
and issue building permits, so that the applicant would not have to wait from one
Council meeting to another for permit. Seconded by Councilman Martin and carried.
Culvert at J. H. Ward property on State Road No. 70 was discussed, No action
t~k en.
Buflding application for J. H. Ward was presented. Due to a qUestion in the
amount of approximate c,st of the building Councilman Mc Dougald moved that the applica-
tion be rejected, motion seconded by Councilman Martin and carrie~l. The clerk was in-
structed to notify Mr. Ward to come bedore the Council or Clerk and explain the cost in
detail and if it proved~satisfactory the Clerk was authorized to issue permit.
Building permit application for Cecil Barber (for barn) was presented. Council
man Watford moved that the applicatfon be accepted, seconded by Councilman Nix and
carried.
Building application for J. C. White was presented and upon motion by Council-
man McDougald, seconded by Councilman Martin and carried the application was accepted.
The feeding o~ prisioners was brought before the Council. Due to the high
cost of living the CounCil agreed that the fee should be raised. Upon motion by Council
man Mc Dougald it was agreed to pay 50~ for breakfast and ~5~ for noon and evening meals
Two meals for non working prisioners and three meals for those working. Motion seconded
by Councilman ~artfn ~S carried.
The need of ~obes for the street lights was heard. Cotmcilman I~lc Dougald
moved that the ~l~rk b~er 12 globes for the lights. Seconded by Councilman Watford
and carried.
The dog sit~ation was discussed but no definte action taken.

Vaction ~or .regular c~ty employees was discussed. Councilman Wstford moved
that regular employees, of the city be given one w~ek vaction with pay. Motion. second-

The matter

paid deliquent license~.
