1949-05-16 SpecialMay 16, 1949 Pursuant to call of Mayor Raulerson, the City Council of the City of Okeechobee, Florida, ~et in special session inthe City Hall at 8:00 P. M. and the following we?e present: Mayor H. H. Raulerson, President Chandler, ,Councilmen Mc Dougald, Nix and Watford with Durrance City Attorney and Lorena Pearce, City Clerk. Mayor Raule~son stated that the purpose of this meeting was to discuss building codes and any other bussiness that might be brought before the Council. Patrolman O,~en requested the Council send a telegram to Hon. W. J. Hendz-y requesting support of House Bill No. 152. Councilman Watford moved that the Clerk send telegram, seconded by Councilman Mc Dougald and carried. J. E. Cone ~equested that the City pass an Ordinance regulating the speed of trains through the city limits. Councilman Nix suggested that Mr. Roe be requested to attend the next regular meeting of Council and discuss matter with him. Mat2er tabled until next meeting. Fire Chief Nancock reported that he had no relief from duty. Councilman ~ic Dougald stated that a relief man had been located. Clifford Boyles asked the City to authorize the removing~of railroad crossing on Osceola Street at Cecil Barber's Packing house. The matter was tabled for investiga- tion of the Council. The matter efa Resolution adopted by the City Council March 8, 1948 was discussed. Following the discussion Councilm~n Watford presented the following Ordinance and moved its adoption and upon being seconded by Councilman Mc Dougald was put to a vote and ~mamimously adopted: ORDINANCE NO. 235 AN ORDINANCE ABANDONING NORTH AND SOUTH CURVE STREETS IN ~-~ CITY OF OKEECHOBEE, FLORIDA. Whereas, this Council adopted a resolution at a regular adjourned meeting on March 8, 1948, vacating amd abandoning North and South Curve Streets as shown by a plat ef the First Addition of the Tow~ of Okeechobee, Florida, and Whereas, no objections to the abandoning of said Streets has been filed with this Council, and Whereas. due notice of said meeting, and its purpose, was published~in the Okeechobee News, a news- paper ~f general circulation published in Okeechobee Count~, Flord da, one week before said meeting, NOW ERF 'ORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Mayor and City Council of the City of Okeechobee, Florida: Section 1. That North and South Curve Streets of tbs City of Okeecbobee, Florida, are hereby vacated and alandoned, reserving, however, all rights of the i 1I' "' '" "Ii,, ........ ,[' ........... ...... .... ii ....... City of Okeechobee have in and to the following East and West streets: Second, Third, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Seventh and South Park Street, and the following North and South Streets: ~ Okeechobee Avenue, Seminole Street, Osceola Street, Hicpochee and Miami Streets, Kissimmee Street, Parrott Avenue, Tallahassee Street, Cherokee Street and Hiwassee Street, where said streets and avenues cross said abandoned North and South Curve Streets. Section 2. That the reversionary owner is hereby authorized to assume control of said abandoned streets for whatever purpose they may deem best. Section 3. All Ordinances or parts of Ordinances in conflict with the provisions of this Ordinauce are hereby expressly repealed. Section 4. This Ordinance shall take effect immediately upon its passing by the Council and approval by the M~¥or. Read in full the first time and by unanimous consent, passed to a second reading. Doerr and American Legion was presented. Upon motion'by Councilman Mc Dougald, seconded by Councilman Watford and carried, permit for R. J. Dcerr was approved and ordered issued upon paym~mt of fee. Councilman Watford moved that the American Legion be granted a permit free from all charges. Seconded by 'Councilman Mc Dougald and carried. O. C. Durrance expressed the great need of a new fire truck and adequate equipment. Chairman of County Commissioners, C. E. Drawdy, stated that the County ~'~ would cooperate in every way possible to enable the City to make this purchase. President Chandler stated that a meeting would be held on Tuesday, May 31, 1949, at the City Hall at 8:00 P. M., for the purpose of investigating this purchase. President Chandler appointed the following Committee: R. B. Neserve, K. E. Stelle, S. H. Mc Dougald, Allen Markham and ~. C. Pitts with five County Commissioners and five City Councilman tc meet and discuss this matter. ~e Clerk was instructed to notify each of the above and also several fire apparatus Companyies to meet with them on said date. ~ ...... The Clerk was requested to write to Florida League of Municipalites for information on building codes Attorney D~rance stated that before the street paving liens could be issued. President Chandler stated that he would contact Mr. Price regarding this matter. Also Mr. Price will be consulted in regard to drawing up a building code for the city. A nut~ance erdinaance will be presented at the next regular meeting of the Council for approval. Upon motion the Council adjourned. Afte~ discussion Councilman Mc Dougald moved that the City purchase from the American La F~nce Foamite Corp. the following fire apparatus equipment: One 500 gallon Triple combination pumper with 300 gallon booster tank, together with all other standard fire fiShting equipment as per specifications. The cost $5,085.00.
