1949-05-02 Regular210 Chief of Police Thomas reported the parking hazzard at the So~]thland Hotel and stated that nothing had been done about it. ~e matter was discussed but no de- finite action as to how to correct the hazzard was taken. Chief Thomas also reported that he had had complaints of the buses stopping on corners and highways around bus station. Ccuncii~an ~Jix volunteered to contact the bus agent regarding this ms~tter and request hi~ to see that this m~tter was corrected. Chief ~v~as reported that he had had complaints from the adjo~ng property oEer of }Jix Service St~tion regarding the standing of greasy water from the grease rack in front of their place of business. President of City Co~cil City May 2, 1949 The City Council of the City of Okee.chobee, Florida, met in regular session at the City Hall on the above date at 8:00 P. M. with the following present: Mayor H. H. Ra~lerson, President R. E. Chandler, Councilmen Martin, Mc Dougald and Nix with Lorena Pearce, City Cl~k. Mc Dougald reported that a sale for $7,000.00 Revenue Certificates was in order and that there would have to be some designated f~md set aside for payment. President Chandler, requested the Finance Com. meet with Mr. ~c Dougald to complete details and report at uext regular meeting of Council. Also Mr. Mc Dougald stated that laying water to. Cecil Barbers property could be obtained. the loan for line John Draughon reported that an excessive amount of speeding on Hancock Street in East Okeechobee was being done and it was very dangerous to children. Mayor Raule rson stated that he would work out something with the Chief of Police in order to correct this ~atter. ~. N. Womack appeared in regard to the drainage in back of his home. After discussion Councilman Martin moved that the grader be used to open ditch to creek. Motion seconded by Councilman Nix and carried. Albert Clay and Curtis Groover aopeared before the Council in regard to their water bills. After discussion Councilman Mc Dougald stated that meters would be checked It was reported t, hat Joe Bongi~vanni had erected a fence across a city street. Joe Bongiovan~i being present was asked to move the fence.at once. Coumcilman Nix reported the unsanitary condition of a building in front of his home belonging to ^ Wallace. Mr. ~. N. Gray being in charge was to be notifed of condition and requested to correct it. Joe Bongiovanni was asked the question, whether or not he had paid the City Co~ncil to permit hime to move his~liquor store to Parrott Avenue. He stated that he ha, paid no one a~ything. Co~u~cilman Martin stated that nothing had been done about the parking situatio~ at Southland Hotel. After discussion it was suggested that Mr. PitSs meet with Council and come to s©me definite decision. Co~ancilman Ni~ stated that he though~the traffic light should be on ca~tion after 12:00 at night. Chief Thomas expressed his opinion as the matter. The Council agreed to leave as it is. Councilman Martin brought before the Council the need of a street light on corner near the Seminole Apartments. After discussion Co~mcilman Martin ~oved that the Florida Power and Light Comoany be contacted and if the light would be within the designated n~mber of feet to have the light installed. Motion seconded by Councilman Nix~ and carried. Mayor Raulerson stated that there ~hould be a street light placed at the hospital corner. The Co~nacil agreed if light was within the designated mnmber of feet to have it instal~d also. Councilman Mc Dougald moved that the City Attorney draw Ordinance to exempt Veterans from City Occupational License who are graded by the Veterans Adminstration to be BO% disable. ~otion seconded by Councilman Martin and carried. The~Council requested Mayor Ra~lerson to have the Chief of Police collect balance of unpaid 19~ City Occupational License.' Discussion as to Cecil Barber paying for grading of alley at his property was heard. Councilman Nix moved that Barber pay for grading alley, due to the fact that ~,~r. Barber said that he would pay for it. Notion seconded by Councilman Martin. Vote 2 yeas and 2 nays. Due to the tie in vote it was agreed to table until Councilman W~.tfor' s return.
