President of City Council ATTEST: April 18, 19~9 ~ City Council of the City of 0keechoba~, Flori~a, met i~ regular ad~onrned session at t~e City Hall at 8:00 P. ~. on the above date with the following oresent: ~.~ayor H. H. ~a~]epaon, President Ch~nJler, Councilmen Mc Dougald, Nix and Warlord with G. C. Du?pa~ce, Cits~ Ceoil Barber appeared before the Cou~cil in regard to installing a water line to his negro quarters. The Co~cil discussed the cost which was estimated at ~1,750.00. ~?r. Barber offered to loan the City $1200.00. ~e Co~cil deceided that would not be a sufficient ~ount and Mayor Rau]~rson suggested that he would contact the bank and find out if ~e City could borrow enoch to complete the job. Councilman Mc Dougald moved that if the arrangements were made to issu~ certificates ~ proceed with the work. Motion secopded by Cour~cilman Nix and carried. Mr. Barber also requested that the street leading into his property be graded. ~e Co~cil advised that this would be done. A. B. Jackson, State Board of I-~ealth represer~tative, appeared before the Council in regard to several mat~ers, lvir. Jackson stated that Dr. ~omas, registered Veterian of ~rt Pierce, would come to Okeec~obee on May 11 and 18 from 1 to ~:00 p. ~. for the purD~e of vaccinating dogs for rabies. The fee for the vaccination to be $~.00 per dog. Th~ Counil agreed that this be done and that~ a notice bs run local newspap~r~to that effect. The matter of a po~d for the dogs was discnsse~ and deemed necessary if the Ordinance be enforced. Mayor Ra~]erson was requested to be in charge of hs~ng the pO~d b~ilt, l.,~r. Jackson reported that tomato culls had been d~ped in the garbage pit and that it was a breeding place for flies. After discussion CoL~ci]~'~an ~atford moved that Barber, Barfield and Markham be notife~ not to d~D culls in th~ pit bu~ to haul them outside of the City limits to Dave Coker's pasture north of o!d East Coas~ Railroad. Motion seconded by Co~cilman Nix and carried. ~r. Jackson suggested th~ t~e City adopt the Sanita~ Code of State Board of Health. After dis- cussion City ~ttorney Durrance was requested to work with ~r. Jackson and' investigate city ordinances relating to this matter. C. L. Stric~le appeared before the 0o~6tl .a~d a~. for information regarding the elec?rical code. He presented an old Ordinance that l~ad been used in Fort P~erce for to get a copy~of the code used by the City of Melbo~rne. write to the Stuart, Lake Wales, B~!le Glad~Frost Proof and Lake Wales Clerk of for a copy of their building code. 210 Chief of Police Thomas reported the parking hazzard at the Southland Hotel and stated that nothing had been done about it. The matter was discussed but no de- finite action as to how to correct the hazzard was taken. Chief Thomas also reported that he had had complai_~ts of the buses stopping on corners and highways around bus station. Counci, i~'an Nix volunteered to contact the bus agent ~egardi~g this matter and request him to see that this matter was corrected. Chief ?~,-:r~as reported that he had had complaints fro~ the adjo~ng property owner of Nix Service Station regarding the standing of greasy water from the grease rack in front of their place of business. Also Mr. Mc Dougald stated that the loan for laying wmter line to Cecil Barbers proper'ty could be obtained.
