To Carlisle A. Thomas, Tax Collector of the City of Okeechobee, Florida:
You are hereby cor~nanded to collect out of the property and from each of the
persons, firms and corporations named in the annexed Assessment Roll, ~nd taxe~
set down on said Roll opposite each name or parcel of land therein described,
and~in case the taxes as extended are not paid by the time orescribed by
law, you are to collect same in the manner prescribed by law. All Money
collected you are to account' for th the City Council of the City of Okeechobee
Mlorida, and you are further required to make co~lectlons and~eport and a
final report to and settlement with the City Council of said City as required
by law and ordinances·

Tbs City Council of the City of Okeechobee, Florida, met in special session
at the City ~all at 8:00 P. M. on the above date with the following present: Mayor
H. H. Raule$on, Councilman Chandler, ~'homas and Watford with Durrance City Attorney,
and Lorena PSarce, City Clerk.
The Mayor 'stated that the purpose of this meeting was to consider the oetit~on~
filed by the candidates.
Du~ to the absence of President Williams, President Pro-tem Thomas had t he
meeting in c~arge
Election to be hedl December 7, 1948, and said petitions were e~amined by the Co~mcil
and all petitions were found to ~ontain the required number of qualified electors.
Motion was made by Councilman Watford, seconded by Councilman Chandler and carried,
that all petitions be accepted·
The Council instructed the City Clerk to have the following ballot printed:

The Council appointed Claude V. Gardner to serve on the election board in ~o
place of M. M. Martin, Sr., who became a candidate in the election to be held Dec.
?. P. Evans appeared before the Council and requested a donation from the City
for the float to be se~t to Tallahassee for the inaguration of the Governor. The
Attorney expressed the:opinion of the Council in stating that the City was in no
ancial condition at this time to make any donation as there was no money alloted for
such and that the new ~udget did not take effect until Janua~j' l, 194~.
Mr. C. H. Pa~kerson, Manager of Florida Power and Light Company in Okeechobee.
presented the City wit~ a check in the amount of $534.78, Franchise payment calculated
in Accordance with Ordlnance No. 223 effective November 5, 1~48. The Council expressed
their appreciation for the check.
