1948-09-07 RegularThe City Tax Assessor presented the City Tax Assessment Roll for t he year 1948 to '~he City Counci~ for reveiw and equalization. After the Council having discussed the Tax Roll it was agreed to carry it over until the regular Meeting Sept. ?th at which time definite action would be taken. After ~iscussion the Council requested the City Attorney to draw ordin&nces for same and present at next regular meeting of the Council. Fire truck rSpresentives appeared before the Council and discussed the possib- ility of the City purchasing a new fire truck. After consideration President W~llians requested the Fire Com~ittee and the Mayor to meet with the County Commissioners and discuss the possibilit~ of purchasing the new truck and the County help finance it and the truck be City-County owned. C. H. Parker~on reportedthat s c~e of the childre~ had been shooting the white way ~lobes with air ri~les and requested that something be done about the matter. Mtg. Della Holmes appeared before the Council in regard to her city taxes and requeste~ her assessments be lowered and all acraage be combined in one description. The Council ~dvised her that the assessments o~ her property were in ~ne with the adjoining p~operty. The matter of the fire hose come before the Council and the Clerk was advised $o order fine'hose as per Fire Chief instructions. A relief fire man was discussed and it was ~eceided to inform J~ es Minehan, Jr., employed by the city as utility man to report fSr duty as fire relief man on Saturday. Th$ following resolution was presented by Councilman Warlord , who moved its a~option, and upon being seconded by Councilman Brette, was put to a vote and adopted! RESOLUTION WHEREAS, Gilbert Culbreth has made application to this Court?il_ to authorize the Tax CollectOr of the City of Okeechobee , to c~ncel all city taxes ~eretofore levied against~the property hereinafter described for the years I927 to 1940 inclusive for the teasSn that said lands were excluded from the municipality by Chapter 10960, Laws of Florida, Acts-'of 1928, and WHEREAS said taxe~ which have been assessed for the years 1927 to 1940 inclusive cons~itue a cloud upon said property and this Council having giVen due ~nsideration to said application, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Tax gollector of t~e City of Okeec~obee he.nd he is hereby authorized and in- sSruSted to cancel all unpaid taxes and tax certificates issued for ~e years 1927 to 1940 inclusive, or any of such years, and make,proper notation on the tax rolls of said city to clear the following described lands of gaid taxes: Lots I and 7 to 12 inclusive, Block 4, and lots 3, 4, 5, and ? to 12 inclusive, Block 5, Riverside Park Subdivision, according to plat thereof recorded in Plat Book 1, page 23, public records of Okeechobee County, Florida. Passed and adopted in regular session this 7th day of September A. D-1948. The ~ed of a mower for the parks was discussed and the President was rec~mested to get info~ation on tramtor and gang mower and present at next meeting of the Council Upon.motion ~Cbmnci~man Watford moved that the 1948 City Tax Assessment Roll presented b~ t~e Tax Assessor be accepted.
