A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
OKEECHOBEE, FLORIDA EXTENDING THE PUBLIC HEALTH
EMERGENCY DUE TO CORONAVIRUS DISEASE 2019 (COVID-19)
THROUGH SEPTEMBER 1, 2020; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, over the last several months, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has issued
several Executive Orders declaring a public health emergency in the State of
Florida and providing directives to address the emergency, which continue to be
in effect; and
WHEREAS, on March 17, 2020, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 2020-02
declaring that a State of Emergency exists in the City of Okeechobee, and
authorizing the Mayor to extend it; and
WHEREAS, on April 7, 2020, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 2020-03 extending
the Emergency declaration and allowing for waivers of certain timeframes; and
WHEREAS, on May 19, 2020, the City Council extended the Emergency declarations
under Resolution No. 2020-06; and
WHEREAS, mitigating the effects of COVID-19 continues to be is a high priority in the
City of Okeechobee, and the City Council wishes to extend the State of
Emergency.
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Okeechobee:
Section 1: The above recitals are true and correct and incorporated in this Resolution.
Section 2: The City Council and the Chief of Police of the City of Okeechobee hereby
re-enacts and extends the State of Emergency that exists in the City of
Okeechobee under Resolutions No. 2020-02, No. 2020-03, and No. 2020-
06.
Section 3: Consistent with the direction of the Governor of the State of Florida by
Executive Order No. 20-179 issued on July 27, 2020, extending certain
timeframes and extending the effectiveness of prior Executive Orders, this
Resolution will remain in effect until September 1, 2020.
Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon adoption.
APPROVED and ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Okeechobee, Florida, on
this 4th day of August, 2020.
