1965-08-02 Regular96S donation of $100.O0 to help defray the cost of July 4th park ceremony. Councihan Gardner moved to grant request and donate $100.00 to American Legion Okeechobee Memorial Post ~64 seconded by Councilman Watford and carried. ' Councilman Hunt m~ved to accept the 1964 City of Okeechobee audit of city records as prepared by Mc Alpin and Hearn, Certified Public Accountants and to re-employ firm for the year 1965, seconded by Councilman Gardner and ~nanimously carried. Mayor Mack discusSed with the Council parking of vehicles in street islands or parkways. The Council requested Attorney Hendry to write a letter to the County Commissioners requesting that the islands be curbed excludi~ the one in front of First Baptist Church. The Council agreed to place NO PARKING SIGNS at the enSrance of islands adjoining Parrott Avenue also authorized the Police to issue citations and to assess a $3.00 fine for violation. Upon motion the ~ouncil adjourned. After discussion Councilman Watford moved to approve application and grant license for the s~e of beer and wine with meals only with no sale of beverage on Sunday, seconded by Councilman Gardner and carried. The Clerk in- structed to .write School Supt. Durrance requesting a meeting with the School Board. Joe C. W$olf, Sewer Plant Adviser, was present discussing and presenting a report on sewage treatment plant an~ the improvements that had been made at the plant. R. W. Starr, Jr., Regional Sanitary Engineer, was present discussing the sewer plant operations and lack of water ~ressure in city. William ~Orrison iii 'appeared before the Council requesting to be on record as being against the water line extension to new school site on north 441, also expressed his opinion as being in favor of police salary incrSase, pension plan for police and stated he felt the city should furniSh police uniforms and guns. 97O Councilman Gardner reported on the survey of sewer line extension to new S. D. A. Church on west 12th Street. I-~ was the comsensus of the Council that if the school was to be opened and a septic tank was insufficien~ they would be in favor of the sewer line extension but just for the church they did not feet-~that it wo~f[d be feasible at this time due to condition of budget. Councilman Watfor~ reported a request from residents in Wilc~ox Shores Subdivision requesting the city to spray canals in that area. The Council did not feel this to be a city responsibility. Attorney Hendry diecussed several requested changes in Garbage Contract. The Council agreed to invite Mr. Dixon to worksho~ meeting Tuesday, August 17, 1965 @ 5:15 P. M. for further discussion on requested changes. A letter was read ~rom the Inter County Telephone and Telegraph Company. The Council requested Attorney Hendry to contact ~anager of said company requesting his presence at the above workShop meeting to explain contents of said ~letter.
