M. with the following present: Mayor Mack, President Mc Crocklin, Councilmen Gar~ner, Hunt, Walker and Watford with Attorney Hendry and Clerk Spivey. Pursuant to notice pub~shed in the Okeechobee News-Mirror regarding a public hearing to consider rezoning Lots 7 and 8, Block 199, Original Town of Okeechobee from Residential (R-2) to Commercial, President Mc Crocklin asked if their were any objections.to the rezonin§. No objection was heard or filed. Councilman Gardner moved to rezone the above described property from Residential (R-2) to Co~ercial, presenting the following Ordinance and moved its adoption and upon being seconded by Councilman Walker was put to a vote and unanimOusly adopted. WHEREAS, applicat~n has been made by Adrian Rogers, requesting this Council to rezone from Residential (R-2) to Commercial Lots 7 and 8 of Block 199, Original Town of Okeechobee, and WHEREAS, notice o2 intention to amend City Zoning Ordinance ~o. 271 regarding said application was duly published acc~ing to law, and WHEREAS, on the 2~h day of May, 1965, a public hearing was held in the City Council room pursuant to said notice, and. Donald R. ~Mack MAYOR Pursuant to ~otice published in the Okeechobee News-Mirror regarding a public hearing to consider rezoning Lots 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6, Block 2, South Okeechobee from Residential (R-l) to Commercial, President~ Mc Crosklin asked if their was any one present who wished to express his opinion. Attorney Lester Jennings was present representing the owner Eugene M. Cone, speaking in behalf of the rezoning, presenting a petition signed by 103 citizens, property owners and residents of the City of Okeechobee petitioning the City Council to rezone the above described property from Residential (R-i) to Commercial. President Mc Crock&in asked if their were any objections to the rezoni~4~. Wilson Selph, C. L. Box and Frank Altobello voiced their objection. A petition was presented signed by 33 property owners objecting the above described property being rezoned from Residential (R-i) to Commercial. After a lenghty discussior. local reAlto Councilman Gardner moved to postpone action for further study until June 8, 1965. Mr. Les Thompson/was also present speaking in behalf of the rezoning~  J.A. Abney and Robert Nelson appeared before the Council requesting permission for Mr. Nelson to place a trailer behind the Southern Oil Service Station on North Parrott Avenue, stating that he was operating said station and needed to live on premises. Due to the Ordinance governing trailers the Council denied request. Joe Dixon and Huey Carter owners of Ail Service Refuse~ Incorporated, 380 Delaware Avenue, Fort Lauder~ dale, Florida, appeared before the Council regarding the Garbage business in City of Okeechobee. The Council felt this ~matter to be an emergency and agreed for them to come here, furnish their truck and make survey of customers. School Zone $~licewemen discussed by the Council. It was reported that two checks in the amount of $100.OO each had ~een received from Nathan Hazellief and Charles Harvey as donations to be used toward paying the salaries of two policewomen for a three weeks period. After discussion Councilman Watford moved to return t~e two donations and not to accept an~ donation from Civic Groups or individuals to help defray the cost ef salaries for policewomen, seconded by Councilman Hunt and unanimously carried. Councilman Hunt moved to authorize Mayor Mack to hire two policewomen @ $25.00 per week for a period of three weeks, retroactive to May 17, 1965 and ending June 4, 1965, seconded by Councilman Watford and u~ mously carried. Councilman H~nt discussed the installation of septic tank at the City Hall and moved to pay Oscar's ~"~ Septic Tank ServiCe $292.00 for 750 gallon septic tank ~175.O0, $25.00 for pumping out old tan~;and $92.00 ~ for plumbing conneCtions seconded by Councilman Watford and carried. Councilman Watford moved to grant Mrs. Tessie Long permission to place a trailer on Lots 3, 4 and 5, Block 147, for a period of six months on a hardship basis (provided that Mrs. Sarah Lowe resides at said location permanently) also prmviding that Mrs. Long agrees to have burned house removed within 30 days seconded by Councilman Walker and carried. Water Supt. ~ortner reported the need of a refrigerator and thermostat for sewer labatory. Stating 960 that he had located a used refrigerator with a 30 day guarantee at Gilbert'~s Tire and Appliance for $75.00, and that a new thermostat ~ould cost $97.00. A~ter discussion Councilman Walker moved to purchase the above two items seconded by Councilman Watford and carried.
