After discussion Councilman Hunt moved to purchase items as listed on memorandum seconded by Councilman Domer and unanimously carr~ed. Supt. Fortner reported that the sewer pipe cleaning machine had been shipped. Su~t. Fortner al so reported a request from J. D. Coker fn~ sewer line extension to his residence on West loth Street. The extension would require 170 Feet of pipe at an approximate cost of $100.00 plus labor. ~ to the distance from existing sewer line, the Council agreed to install p~pe provide.ns Mr. Coker pays for material and labor. Due to the condition of a fruit stand on North Parrott Avenue, Building Off~icial Sp~ay was instructed to contact owner of stand and have it remnved~ also advised Mr. Spray to contact Lewis Hardwick regarding the j~m!~ at his premises on North Parrott Avenue. Street ~pt. Bennett presented Street Department monthly report. Also discussed the need of having two men assigned to care for all streets, parks and median mowing in order to keep things ~o to par but would also need another truck For this p~rpose to haul the equipment and pick up sand, amd trim~ngs. President Burk reported the need of median mowing and edge trintming. Supt. Bennett also reported that the shell from the county pit was not a good ~ade mostl~v mar! and sand. The Council a~reed that the haul would be to long and the city trucks to small. Councilman Domer agreed to run test on land behind water plant to determine if there was any shell in that area. Supt. Bennett reported the need of a rear broom and g~tter broom for street sweeper, total approximate cost $~8~.00. Bennett reported on the drainage problem on east Eighth Street between Cherokee Street aod Hiwassee Street, stating there was no place for the water to go. Suggested cutting paved road and install~ ~g culvert. Due to rainy season being about over matter oostpoued ~mt~3 February or March. A]so a draioage problem on Si×th Street in South Okeechobee needing drain d~.tches ~ud two c~]verts for proper drain. Appro×imate cost for culverts $160.00. Matter postponed until the first of year. Supt. Bennett reported a junked car parked partly on Eighth Street right of way was hindering h~ from m~ttin~ d~. teh at this l~cation. The Council authorized the Police Department to have w~ecker remove said car. Supt. Bennett presented .material om backhoe and front end loader for Counci!"s consideration. P~esident Burk m~ggested a special work shop meeting for discussion on purchase of equipment with the Deoartments outlining needed equipment for +he~.r departments. Ja~es Attaway had previously requested a culvert on Hale Avenue for entrance to his business, an~ d~e to some misunderstanding as to location, Mr. Attaway had prepared a map showing the location which was presented to the Council by the Clerk. The location being at Tallahassee Street and Hale Aw~nue. After dSsm~ssion Councilman Dogmlas was requested to contact the Florida Department of Transportation regarding this matter. A report from the Okeechobee Auxi~,~ar~r Po]ice was read and the Council authorized the $300.00 yearly contr~bution. For year 1970. The Council felt they needed ~ore ~nCor~a+~on and requested that Mr, Berber be ~nv~ted to ne~t Council meeting. Th~ Council agreed to invite Engineer Don Osha bo attend next Council meeting. Co~ncilman Domer discussed the number of grass and woods fires in the county and the City being called to sadd fires and was of the opinion that the county residents should call the Division of Forestry ~,o report a fire of this nature and the city would assist if necessary. The Council a~ed that this matter be talked over with the Division of Forestry and was referred to Councilman Domer and Cm,nci!man Hunt. Further reoorted a request for water line extension on west Seventh Street in Clay Subdivision, just west. of city ]imdts, for two new services. Stating the present line was inadequate for additional ~ervices ~he new e~tension would require approximately 1200 feet of ', pipe· The Council agreed that the new extension would not be feasible at this time. Supt Fortner suggested an a].ternate lire from State Road 70. After discussion the Council agreed with Councilman Hunt"s recommendation to postpone any action at this time.
