1971-10-21 Regular Adjourned and Winta Park (Bill Tom]inson). Attorney Curren requested to write to both parties regarding matter. It was reported that the trip light on Riverview Drive was not functioning properly, but it was felt that this was due to persons crossing the center line when turning on to Riverview Drive approaching from the wes~ possibly due to drop off of pavement at this point. Matter to be taken up with Department of Transportation MaiNtenance. Councilman Douglas was requested to check with the Department of Transportation regarding the r~.ght turn only at the east ~xit from North Shore Shopping Plaza entering SR #70, this being according to blue print prepared by the Department of Transportation, also to check with the Departmentl on cleaning ditch on east SR #70. Councilman Breland moved to pay off duty Policemen who have to attend Court $5.00 for effective October 2~, 1971 Court time,/seconded by Councilman Domer and urm. minously carried. Councilman Douglas discussed the city investigating the possibility of getting a tractor through the government surplus. President Burk urged the city to use great caution in the purchase of the surplus equipment. Supt. Bennett d.~.scussed the need for additional back-hoe or front-end loader. Matter to be discussed at preparation of water budget. The Council authorized Supt. Bennett to prepare specifications for backhoe and submit to Water Committee. road The Council authorized that the/south of fire station be used as one-way, enter from the east and exit on Cherokee Street, also authorized the purchase of proper signs for this change. Alphonso Crowe!l, President of Community Action Club, appeared before the Council stating that he had been informed that the Firemen had been instructed not to go to a fire in Douglas Park without a Dsputy escort and if true requested the Council to rescind action. The Council advised that this action had been taken due to problems the Firemen had encountered in the area. Also Mr. Crowell requested that the co5ore8 be allowed membership in the Vol~:nte~r F~re Department Organization. He was advised to check with Mire Chief Godwin regarding this matter. The Council suggested to Mr. Crowell that hd s Club organize a co~tte of responsible me~bers with a roster of members to help keep the people from interfering with firemen and equipment d~:ring a fire. Mr. Crowell felt this would be a help and agreed to organize a committee and furnish the names of members. Also requested a Negro Policeman as they reit the colored people werenot receiving adequate protection. He was referred to Chief Thomas. Upon motion the Council adjourned to meet October 21, 1971 at 6:00 P. M. October 21, 1971 The City Council ~f the City of Okeechobee, Florida, met in regular adjourned session at the City Hall on the above date at 6:00 P. M. with the following present: President Burk, Councilman Breland and Hunt w~.th Attorney Curren and Deputy Clerk Bennett. The Council discussed the plans for Attorney Curren to go to New York for the closing on the Genera]. Obl~ gation Refunding Bonds on Tuesday, October 26, 1971. Councilman Hunt moved to authorize Attorney Curren to act in the City's behalf in the closing on the General Obligation Refunding Bonds, also authorization to carry the Official Seal of the City so he can affix the seal on the bonds at closing and to give authorization to carry a Cashier's check to be executed in the amount, of $12,O12.qO~. and to invest +.he funds at closing in a time account at interest~ seconded by Council- man Breland and carried. The letter to Farmers Home Adminstration was discussed at lenght. Councilman Hunt moved to accept th= letter and to authorize the Mayor to sign it in behalf of the City of Okeechobee, seconded by Councilman Breland and carried. Upon motion the Council adjourned.
