Attorney Curren advised that a State Law requires that a certified Engineer fill out the
Air and Wate~ Pollution application as approved in January ~th minutes.
Attorney C~rren requested to investigate the proceedure used by other municlpalities in
regard t~ ch~.ng churches utility tax.

of bills, seconded by Councilman Breland and ~nanimous]y carrded.

January 19, 1971
The City Council of the City of Okeechobee, Florida, met in workshop session at the City
Hall on the above date at 5:30 P. M. with the following present: President Burk, Councilman
Breland, Domer, Douglas and Hunt with Attorney Curren, Clerk Spivey and Supt. Fortner.
Chgrles A. Anderson and Don Osha of Brockway, Owen and Anderson, Engineers, Inc. were
present, advising the Council on status of water improvement program, presenting plans and
spec~ficatiors for State Board of Health approval. The Council authorized that the plans and
spec~ficaticrs be forwarded to State Board of Health for their approval. The Engineers were
instructed to prepare balance of water works improvement project and present to the Council as soon
as possible. The Council also agreed to make application to F. H. A. for needed funds.
A1 Stokes was present regarding CATV, presenting a model Franchise Ordinance for the
Gounci]'s cor~ideration and st~dy, and requested a meeting in the near future with the Council.
The Council agreed to meet with ~. Stokes when he is ready.
Councilman Domer reported a street light request from J. G. Kelly at Florida Palms Trailer

Park also Councilman Hunt. reported a street light request from Okeechobee General Hospital. The
Council authorized reques+s to be added to list, of street, light requests.
The Council aut~orized Attorney Curren to contact +.he Florida Department of Transportation
requesting permission to ~nstal] a traffic control device on State Road 70 at entrance of Riverview
Drive.
The Council_ aut~,orized the p~rchase of two 40 foot, c~lverts and to improve Second and
~Th~rd Streets west of Hil~.sborough Avenue to city limit, ditch.
Ernest Evans request to be on agenda was granted for January 26, 1971 at ~:30 P. M.
The Council agr~ed for sewer plant employee to operate street sweeper at night providing
it does not interfer with his d~ties at sewer plant.
Attorney ~]rren reported that A. A. Scott was interested in selling his water company in
Bett~-~r Womes of Bet-Her Antes m~bdivision. The Council agreed for Supt Fortner to ~ nv~ti~ate
syste~.
I~e ±.o numerous complaints of residents in Wilcox Shores and Okeechobee Estates, it was
aEreed by the Co~mcil to bare ~ regular policeman when possible at Wilcox Shores entrance to direct
traffic, during the rush hours.
