NOTICE
NOTICE is hereby given that the City Council of the City. of Okeechobee, Florida, will
at their regular meeting, July 8, 1969, consider vacating, discontinuing and closing the
following alleyway and street:
That part of that certain alleyway located in Block 53 of the City of Okeechobee,
according to the map thereof and recorded in the Public Records of Okeechobee County,
Florida. Bounded on the East by Lots i through 5, bounded on the West by Lots 9 through
15 of said Block 53.
Those parts of l~th Street and Riverside Drive of the City of Okeechobee according
to the map thereof, recorded in the Public Records of 0keechobee County, Florida,
lying within the following description:
Commence at the NE Corner of Block
easterly direction along the South Boundary of l~th Street and the North Boundary
of Block 53 to the West Boundary of Taylor Creek; thence, proceed in a Northwesterly
direction along the West Boundary of Taylor Creek to the South Boundary of the Sea-
Board Coastline Railroad Co., R. R. right of way; thence, proceed in a Westerly dir-
ection along said South Boundary of said railroad ri~ht of way to a point directly
North of the Point of Beginning; thence, proceed in a Southerly direction to the
point of beginning.

The City Council of the City of Okeechobee, Florida, met in regular session at the City Hall
on the above date at ?:00 P. M. with the following present: Mayor Dunham, President Gardner,
Councilman Breland, Hunt, Padgett and Walker ~ith Clerk Spivey.
Minutes of the meetings held June 3 and 2h, 1969 were read and approved as read.
John Thomas, President of Americable Inc. was present requesting permit to install cable T. V.
in Okeechobee submitting Brochure for the Council's study. Matter to be studied by Attorney and
Council.
Pearl GodMin reported the need of a new heavy duty washing machine for City Hall (jail use)
presenting the following prices: Elliott Applicance $239.00 Westinghouse
Badcock Furh. Co. 329.OO Maytag
Gilbert Culbreth ~10.95 Maytag (less 10% cash discount)
After discussion, consideration and recommendation of Mrs. Godwin, Councilman Hunt moved to purchase
washing machine from Gilbert Culbreth at $310.95 less 10% cash discount, seconded by Councilman
Padgett and unanimously carried.
James Godwin, Assistant Fire Chief appeared with R. V. Murphy, District Ranger of the Forest
Service, submitting a cooperative equiMnent lease for a truck to be used in fire department.
The Council agreed to meet and inspec~ truck when Mr. Murphy notifies Council of date.
Chief Godwin requested new tires for 1949 Ford Fire Truck, stating the truck had original tires
on it. The Council agreed for Chief Godwin to get several prices on tires and report to Council.
Chief Godwin requested a small mowing machine for City Hall grounds. The Council authorized
Chief Godwin to get several prices on mowing machines and report to Council.
Requests for water line extension on Jefferson Street requiring approximately 250 feet of 2 inch
pipe and West 10th Street requiring approximately_~ of I inch pipe was reported. Both request were

~ for water line extensions outside city limits. After discussion and consideration the Council
agreed that upon payment of $170.00 plus $15.00 deposit request would be granted on Jefferson Street
l~ne extension and upon payment of cost of pipe and labor request would be granted on west 10th Street.
The Council agreed that in the future all water line extensions installed outside city limits
party would be required to pay for pipe, labor and all expense in makingextension.
Councilman Walker moved to authorize the ourchase of three valves at approximately $620'.O0 each
for filters seconded by Councilman Hunt and unanimously carried.
Supt. Fortner reported that the chemical storage room was in bad condition. The Council agreed
for Supt. Fortner, Building Inspector White and Councilman Walker to work out details on needed
storage room and report to Council.
Mayor Dunham reported on his findings of semi-trucks being operated in residential areas. Chief
Thomas was present and discussed matter with the Council. Also present was Charles Wilson interested
in finding out the outcome of the investigation. Chief Thomas agreed to contact the truck owners and
endeavor to clear up the situation. Mayor Dunham requested to get model Ordinance governing this
matter. Charles Wilson advised to file complaint if the situation occured again.
Attorney Tom Conely III was present representing Thomas E. Nipper (Nipper's Taxi) who was also
present, requesting the Council to amend Taxi Ordinance revising permit and requirements. Attorney
was
Conely/requested by the Council to meet with Attorney Hendry and prepare qualifications and require-
ments in regards to the amendment of Taxi Ordinance and report to the Council.
Councilman Walker reported requests for street lights on South Miami Street at intersection of
Fifth and Sixth Streets. Also President Gardner reported a request for street light at corner of
Mimm~ i Street and 12th Street, (Lerois Blunt). The three requested lights were authorized to be added
to requested street light list.
Councilman Hunt agreed to check with Marvin Arrants regarding the delay in the installation of
signal light at intersection of State Road 70 and Riverview Drive.
A request from the Okeechobee County Bank to pave over alley in order to permit an exit to 7th
street for additional Drive-In Window No. h was read. After discussion Councilman Hunt moved to grant
permission to Okeechobee County Bank to pave across alley as stated in request, seconded by Councilman
?adgett and unanimously carried. The Clerk authorized to advise Bank of action.
A rezoning application was presented from Julian Leggett. The Council authorized that the notice
of public hearing be published in Okeechobee News.
NOTICE OF INTENTION TO AMEND CITY ZONING ORDINANCE #271
NOTICE is hereby given that the City Council of the City of Okeechobee, Florida, a
municipal corporation, will consider rezoning from Agricultural to Commercial and to amend
accordingly the Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance #271 adopted November 21, 1~55, the following
described real property, situate, lying and being within the corporate limits of the City of
Okeechcbee, Florida, to-wit:
Beg. 1OO ft. South and 25 feet West of the Northeast Corner of Government Lot 2,
Section 22, Township 37 South, Range 35 East, thence run South, parallel to the
East boundary of Government Lot 2 aforesaid, 210 feet, thence West 1OO ft, thence
North 210 feet, thence East 100 feet to the point of beginning
and that a public hearing in relation thereto will be held at 7:30 P. M. on the 5th
day of kugust, 1969 in the City Council room, City Hall, Okeechdoee, Florida, at which
time all parties in interest and citizens shall have an opportunity to be heard.

Councilman Hunt moved to pay the telephone bill at Mayor Dunham's residence, due to the
phone being used mostly for city business, providing Mayor Dunham keeps a record of all calls,
seconded by Councilman Padgett and unanimously carried.

Block 53 to the West boundary of Taylor Creek, thence, proceed in a Northwesterly
direction along the West boundary of Taylor Creek to the South boundary of the Sea-
board Coastline Co., R. R. right of way; thence, proceed in a westerly direction

President Gardner asked if there were any objections. No objection was heard of filed, therefore,
Councilman Padgett moved to close above described alleyway and parts of streets and presented the

of Okeechobee County, Florida, also those parts of l~th Street and Riverside Drive,
described as follows, according to plat thereof, recorded in Plat Book l, Page lO,
public records of Okeechobee County, Florida: Commence at the Northeast Corner of
Block 54 of the City of Okeechobee and proceed in a Easterly direction along the South
bo~mdary of lhth Street and the North boundary of Block 53 to the West boundary of
Taylor Creek; thence, proceed in a Northwesterly directionalong the West boundary of
