Councilman Padgett moved to adjourn meeting, seconded by Councilman Hunt and unanimously carried, t PRESIDENT CITY-COUNCiL ATTEST: ~_a~ ~ January 7, 1969 The incoming City Council of the City of Okeechobee, Florida, met in regular session at the City Hall following adjournment of the retiring Council with the following present: Mayor Audley Dunham, President Claude Gardner, Councilmen Charles L. Breland, E. H. Hunt, Neal S. Padgett and Franklin Walker with W. L. Hendry and Clerk Lorena Spivey. It being in order the oath of office was administered to Councilmen Charles L. Breland and E. H. Hunt also Chief of Police C. A. Thomas by Attorney W. L. Hendry. Councilman Hunt moved to forego election of Chairman of City Council and appointment of Committees and to leave the Chairman and Committees the same as appointed February 7, 1967 with the exception of vacancy created by retiring Councilman Watford as Chairman of Parks, Laws and Rules Committee and Committee member on Finance and Fire Committee and Street and Sanitary Committee which which Councilman Breland would fill seconded by Councilman Walker and unanimously carried. Councilman Padgett nominated Councilman Hunt as President Pro-Tern nomination seconded by ,and upon vote was put to a vote by Councilman Breland a~/unanimously carried. Supt. Fortner' presented pictures of Venturi Tube at water plant that had been replaced, als~ stating that the new flow meter had been installed. After discussion the Council instructed Supt. Fortner to contact the Engineers regarding the condition of pipe and tube. ~ Supt. Fortner reported that the water plant roof was leaking. Matter referred to Building ~ I Inspec, tor White and ~upt. Fortner. Supt. Fortner reported that the lake pump has gone bad and it could not be repaired, stating a new pump would cost approximately $800.00 or $900.00. After discussion, Councilman Walker moved to purchase necessary pump seconded by Councilman Padgett and unanimously carried. Supt. Fortner also stated the need of two Chemical Feeders (Soda Ash and Carbon) to replace two machines borrowed from City of Fort Pierce several years ago which were now in bad condition. The Council agreed to meet with Supt. Fortner and review the needs at water plant. 1140 The hour of 8:00 o'clock P. M. having arrived bids were received, opened and read for the purchase of i - ~ ton pickup truck for the water department from the follewiag: Gilbert Chevrolet Company, Inc. $1,578.00 Okeechobee Motor Company 1,561.80 Lake Dod ge-Plymouth, Inc. 1,064. O0 After discussion and consideration CounciLman Walker moved to accept bid from Lake Dodge-Plymouth, Inc. in the amount of $1,O64.00, seconded by Councilman Breland and unanimously carried. Supt. Williams stated that the City would be needing equipment for n6W barn such as air compressor, jack, vise, air conditioner and etc. The Council instructed Supt. Williams to prepare a list of needed items with price and present to Council. Supt. Williams reperted that the bridge on Okeechobee Street that J. V. Dykes had re- quested to be repaired or replaced with a culvert had been inspected and could be repaired. The Council agreed for Supt. Williams to repair bridge as soon as time is available. The Council instructed Chief Thomas to prepare specifications on police car and authorized the Clerk to publish notice in Okeechobee News. NOTICE Notice is hereby given that the City Council of the City of Okeechobee, Florida, will receive sealed bids for the purchase of the following: I Special Police Car, 4 door, heater, tinted glass, turn signal, back-up lights, air conditioning, spot light, heavy duty automatic transmission at least 60 AMP, low cut in alternator, minimum of 360 HP engine, tan with white top, power brakes, power steering, and padded dash. Body style to be equal to Belair Chevrolet or Custom 500 Ford. Trade in allowance on 1967 Belair Chevrolet 4 door, model No. 15669. Said bids will be opened in the Council Chamber at the City Hall in Okeechobee, Florida, at 8:00 P. M. February 4, 1969. The Council reserves the right to re- ject any and all bids. Fortner reported that he had checked the James Whitton meter as requested and found meter to be correct. Meter was located on Hancock Street property formerly owned to-W. R. Johns. Councilman Pad~ett moved to employ one additional full time fireman effective February 1. President Gardner reliquished the chair and seconded the motion. The following vote was taken - Yea - Councilman Padgett and Gardner. Nay - Councilman Hunt and Walker. Councilmam Breland did not vote. Motion died due to a tie vote. The Council agreed to discuss matter further at workshop meetin Mayor Dunham diacussed with the Council complaints on Religious Tents being permitted to be set uD here. No action=taken at this time.
