Councilman Pad~ett moved to emoloy one additional full time fireman effective
as of February l, 1969, salary to be determined at a later date. Due to opinion of
Attorney Hendry, this would be new business therefore Councilman Padgett withdrew motion.
Councilman Padgett moved to adjourn meeting, seconded by Councilman Hunt
and unanimously carried. , ·

The incoming City Council of the City of Okeechobee, Florida, met in regular session at
the City Hall following adjournment of the retiring Council with the following present: Mayor
Audley Dunham, President Claude Gardner, Councilmen Charles L. Breland, E. H. Hunt, Neal S. Padgett
and Franklin Walker with W. L. Hendry and Clerk Lorena Spivey.
It being in order the oath of office was administered to Councilmen Charles L. Breland
and E. H. Hunt also Chief of Police C. A. Thomas by Attorney W. L. Hendry.
Councilman Hunt moved to forego election of Chairman of City Council and appointment of
Committees and to leave the Chairman and Committees the same as appointed February 7, 1967 with the
exception of vacancy created by retiring Councilman Watford as Chairman of Parks, Laws and Rules
Committee and Committee member on Finance and Fire Committee and Street and Sanitary Committee which
which Councilman Breland would fill seconded by Councilman Walker and unanimously carried.
Councilman Padgett nominated Councilman Hunt as President Pro-Tern nomination seconded by
_and upon vote was out to a vote
by Councilman Breland aw~/unanimously carried.
Supt. Fortner' presented pictures of Venturi Tube at water plant that had been replaced, als¢
stating that the new flow meter had been installed. After discussion the Council instructed Supt.
Fortner to contact the Engineers regarding the condition of pipe and tube.
Supt. Fortner reported that the water plant roof was leaking. Matter referred to Building
Inspec,tor White and Supt. Fortner.
Supt. Fortner reported that the lake pump has gone bad and it could not be repaired,
stating a new pump would cost approximately $800.00 or $900.00. After discussion, Councilman Walker
moved to purchase necessary pump seconded by Councilman Padgett and unanimously carried.
Supt. Fortner also stated the need of two Chemical Feeders (Soda Ash and Carbon) to
replace two machines borrowed from City of Fort Pierce several years ago which were now in bad
condition. The Council a~reed to meet with Supt. Fortner and review the needs at water plant.
