The City Council of the City of Okeechobee, Florida, met in regular session at the
City Hall on the above date at 7:00 P.M. with the following present: President Gardner,
Councilmen Hunt, Padgett and Walker with Attorney Hendry and Clerk Spivey.
Minutes of the meetings held October, 2, 3, 31 and November 7, 1967 were read and
approved.
The following bills in the amount of $ 4,434.65 and $ 8t321.99 were read and
approved as read:

Matthe~z Tomlinson representing the Presbyterian Church was present regarding the street light at
Church location on North Meredith ,~.venue that had been previously requested. The Council agreed to
contact the Mlorida Power and Light Company again regarding this light.
The Council advised the Clerk to request Marvin Arrants, Manager of the Florida Power and Light
Co.~pauy to meet with the Council ~.t workshop meeting December 12, 1967 at 5:30 P. M.
Pursuant to notice published in the Okeechobee News bids were received, opened and read from the
following Insuarance Companies for Accidental Death Insurance for Firemen and Law Enforcement Officers:
Allen R. Ellis Insur~uce Agency $10.OO per year per man
Gabor & Company, Inc. $11.80 per year per man
Acceptance of bids postponed at this time for investigation by Attorney Hendry.
Councilman Padgett moved to retain Rockway, Owen and Anderson Engineers to prepare plans and
specifications for water main extension from Seaboard Air Line Railroad to new school site at 6% of
construction cost and perform control staking and periodic construction @ 4% of construction cost,
seconded by Councilman Walker and unanumously carried.
Supt.
St./Williams reported a request from Robert Going to have the south end of Kissimmee Street in
Royal Oak Subdivision opened. The Council agreed for Supt. Williams to contact Leon Willis for survey
of said street providing it is definite that Robert Going is to build house.
Supt. Williams reported the need of additional sewer rods. Councilman Walker moved, seconded by
and carried
Councilman Padgett/to authorize purchase of necessary equipment.
The Council authorized an adjusted water bill for R. Boromei residence, due to leak.
Robert Matthews, Ben Burdeshaw and Julian Leggett aopeared before the Council requesting that
Micanopee Street be opened from State Road 70 to their property in Block 53. Council agreed for Supt.
Williams to make survey of cos~ and report to the Council.
Councilman Walker moved to grant water line extension to Hubert Harden on Orange Avenue and llth
Street approximately 260 feet of pipe and west llth Street approximately 466 feet of pipe. Several
houses are to be built at both locations.
Councilman Walker presented the following Ordinance and Moved its adoption and upon being seconded
by Councilman Padgett was put to a vote and unanimously adopted:
ORDINANCE NO. 325
AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FDR THE LEVY AND COLLECTION OF TAXES FOR THE YEAR 1967 FOR
THE CITY OF OKEECHOBEE, FLORIDA.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OKEECHOBEE, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1. That the City of Okeechobee, Florida, hereby levies a tax of 7 mills on each
dollar valuation of real and personal property within the corporate limits of the City of Okee-
chobee, Florida, for the year 1967; such taxes shall be assessed and collected in the manner

provided by law, PROVIDED HOWEVER, that no taxes shall be assessed against homesteads,
having a valuation of not more than $5,000.00 for the General Fund of said City.
SECTION 2. That 5 mills of such tax be used for General City purposes and shall be
assessed for the General Fund of said City. That 2 mills of such tax shall be assessed
for the interest and sinking fund for the payment of interest and principal of General
Refunding Bonds, Issue of 1942, of said City.
SECTION 3. It shall be the duty of the Tax Collector of said City and the City
Clerk of said City, to divide the proceeds received from said taxes as aforesaid, into
the Funds set out in Section i of this Ordinance and keep full and correct account of
same as they may be directed by the City Council.
SECTION 4. All ordinances, or parts of Ordinances, in conflict herewith be, and
the same are hereby repealed.
SECTION 5. This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect upon its passage by
the City Council and approval by the Mayor.
PASSED AND ADOPTED in regular session this 5th day of December, A.D. 1967.

Councilman Padgett moved to give all city employees a Christmas Bonus of $15.00 seconded by
Councilman Walker. Voting yes: Councilmen Walker and Padgett and President Gardner. Voting No:
Councilman Hunt.
The Clerk reported that the Florida Power and Light Franchise check in the amount of $15,880.21
had been received.

The City Council of the City of Okeechobee, Florida, met in regular adjourned session at the

The Council agreed to publish notice to postpoue Council meeting scheduled for January 2, 196S
tn January 9, 1968.
The Clerk reported that she was unable to take all of all~,ed vacation and requested one weeks
additional pay. Councilman Padgett moved to grant request and .may the Clerk one weeks extra pay
for vacation not taken, seconded by Councilman Watford and carried.
