The incoming City Council of the C~ty of Okeechobee, Florida, met in regular session at the
City Hall following adjournment of the retiring Council member with the following present: Mayor
Audley Dunham, Councilmen Claude Gardner, E. H. Hunt, Neal S. Padgett, Franklin Walker and Alto Watford
Jr. with Attorney W. L. Hendmy and Clerk Lorena Spivey.
It being in order the oath of office was administered to Councilman Neal S. Padgett by
Attorney W. L. Hendry.
Councilman Hunt nominated Councilman Walker as Temporary Chairman, nomination seconded by
Co~mcilman ~4atford and upon vote Co~mcilman ~qalker was elected Temporary Chairman.

L. D. Zipperer and several residents of the Southwest Addition were present presenting a
petition signed by property owners in said area protesting to the property formerly owned by Lester
Mc Geee but recently purchased by Ridge Tanklines, Inc. being used co,,~mercially~ due to the noise
from the big trucks and the trucks causing a hazzardous condition for the children in that area. It
was agreed that the Police would patrol area in an effort to prevent speeding of vehicles. The matter.
of the property being used commercially was taken into consideration and advisement.
Dick Spray representing L. H. Dreese, ap~ared before the Covncil requesting that 18th Stree~i
east of Parrott Avenue be opened to T&ylor's Creek to give access to property owned by Dreese. Counci]~
man Hunt recommended that the matter be investigated.
Supt. Fortner stated that the old Street Department pick~p truck could be used by the Sewer
Department. The Council agreed for Dreese, Mobley and Supt. Williams to check out repair cost and
report to Council.
Supt. Fortner~reported a request for water line extension to the new home of Roscoe Markhams'
in C-ntral Park Subdivis~on~ requiring approximately ~18 feet of 2" pipe. Also a request on Seveneenth
Street in Dean's Court for water line extension which would require approximately 21~ feet of 1½" pipe.
It was reported that three houses probably would be serviced by the one water tap. Councilman Walker
new home
moved to authorize water line extension to Roscoe' Markh~with 1~" tap and extend water on 17th Street
in Dean's Court providing three tap fees and three deposits are paid, seconded by Councilman Padgett
and unanimously carried.
Councilman Wat~er discussed a request from Supt. Fortner for installation of two-way radios
in water trucks presenting cost of said radios and installation. Matter to be discussed at workshop
meeting.
Supt. Fortner requested a street light at sewer plant and water plant. The request to be
added to list of street light request.
Supt. Fortner reported that the odor from the sewer plant was due to the plant receiving a
large amount of tomato waste from Markham Brothers Canning Plant. Matter to be discussed further at
workshop meeting.
Supt. Fortner stated that he had been informed that the engineers were in the process of
preparing plans for four laning State Road 441 south.
Fursuant to notice published in the Okeechobee News regarding a public hearing to consider
rezoning 'Lots ll and 12, ~lock 166 f~m ~esidential R-3 to Commercial, President Gardner asked if
were any objections. No objections were heard or filed. Councilman Watford moved to rezone the
above described property from Residential R-3 to Commercial and presented the following Ordinance and
· ~oved its adopteion and uoon being seconded by Councilman Walker was put to a vote and unanimously

THE PROVISIONS OF CHAPTER 176, FLORIDA STATUTES, 1953.

WHEREAS, application has been made by Joe A. Underhill,~r., requesting this
Council to rezone from Residential R-3 to Commercial Lots 11 and 12, Block 166,
Original Town of Okeechobee, and
WHEREAS, notice of intention ~o amend City Zoning Ordinance No. 271 re-
garding said application was duly published according to law, and
WHEREAS, on the 3rd day of January, 1967, a public hearing was held in
the City Council room pursuant ~o said notice, and
WHEREAS, it is deemed to the best interest of the City of Okeechobee to
grant said application; now therefore
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY O? OKEECHOBEE, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1. That Lots ll and 12, Block 166, Original Town of Okeechobee,
be and are hereby rezoned from Residential R-3 to Commercial effective January
3, 1967.
SECTION 2. That the application requesting rezoning and proof of
M~blication to amend Zoning Ordinanar~e:.No. 271 published in connection with
the above application be attached to this Ordinance and become a part hereof.
SECTION 3. That the City Clerk make the appropriate change on the City
Zoning Map in accordance with this Ordinance.

rszoning the following described property: Beg. 100 ft. South and 25 feet West of the Northeast
Corner of Ooverr~ent Lot 2, Section 22, Township 37 South, Range 35 East, thence run South, parallel
to the East boundary of Gove~-~,,~ent Lot 2 aforesaid, 210 feet, thence West 100 feet, thence North 210
feet, thence East 100 feet to the point of beginning, from Agricultural to Oo~reAal, President
Gardner asked if there were any objections. A petition was received signed by several property
owners in said area objecting to the rezoning of the above described property. After discussion
Councilman Padgett moved to deny rezoning request, seconded by Councilman Hunt and carried.
The Council instructed the Clerk to write a letter to the Okeechobee Motor Company, request-
ing a written reply, stating if they could or could not furnish police car per bid specifications as
advertised. If the Okeechobee Motor Company is unable to furnish the car as ocr specifications,
Councilman Watford moved to accent~ the bid from Gilbert Chevrolet Company for the purchase of police
car, seconded by Councilman Hunt and carried.
