approaching the podium, and wait to be given the floor, stating their name for the record.

V. UNFINISHED BUSINESS
A. Discuss what events the CCAHC should host — Member Turgeon, Tab J
Distributed with the agenda packets was a list of suggested ideas created by Member Cable, for
centennial sponsored events. Member Turgeon distributed at the meeting a two -page report, using
Member Cables ideas, listed by the month, of possible events with highlights and activities to be held,
guest speakers, along with potential locations, dates and times. The committee reviewed this list
intently, discussing the possible scenarios of each. The following is the final outcome, based on the
discussion, and each will be discussed at the next meeting to appoint specific coordinators.
Host a Kick -Off Dinner, possibly on Friday, January 9, as it's the first weekend after school is back in
session from winter break. The purpose will be to officially introduce the CCAHC Members, and Sub -
Committee Members, the unveiling of the Centennial Logo and Slogan, and to expound on all
Centennial sponsored events for the year. The featured speaker could be a local historian, with special
guests being all City and County dignitaries. Invite all city restaurants to participate by having tasting
tables that feature heavy hors d'oeuves or finger foods. The event should be free to the community. The
most favored location was on the Freshman Campus Auditorium, with the restaurant booths set out on
the lawn and courtyard area to create a meet and greet prior to the ceremony. An exterior sound system
and lighting would be required so that once the ceremonies begin anyone wanting to remain outside
could listen to the presentations. Having the ceremonies broadcast outside via television screens would
be a benefit as well. An alternate plan, due to inclement weather, could be to use the cafeteria for the
food tables.
Member Turgeon was happy to announce she had a sub - committee who has taken on the idea to
create a 100 -Day Scavenger Hunt that could begin January 19, and run until June 4, in time to
announce the winner at the Centennial Birthday Party. The contest would be through the Centennial
social media. A certain number of clues would be released on certain days through the contest time
period. The contestants must figure out the clue, go to that place and look for the laminated centennial
logo, take a picture at that place with the logo and post it to the social media using the appropriate hash
tag. She gave the example, entrance to the largest watering hole in town. The place is the pier at Lock
7. At the end of the pier, a large laminated logo would be located appropriately for picture taking. The
places /areas will be of historical sites and /or landmarks, and points of interest around both the City and
County.
Host the Mayor's Gala, to be a black -tie formal dinner and dance, and to be used as the featured
fundraiser, tentative set for Saturday, April 18. Clerk Gamiotea was asked to contact First Baptist
Church to reserve the ROC as the possible location for this event.
Throw a 100th Birthday Party on Saturday, June 13, 2015, this date keeps the event from interfering
with the last week of school, testing and graduation ceremonies. In keeping with the celebration held in
1915 there should be live music, games, contests, carnival rides, wagon or hay rides, and a birthday
cake contest. During the discussion of a possible location large enough to host the event, Mr. Tom Peer,
offered the facilities at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, as they are large enough and conducive to
host an event of this nature. Chair Mixon thanked him for his invitation.
Host a Heritage or Founders Day on Saturday, October 10, 2015, to commemorate Peter Raulerson
moving his family from Bassinger to the Bend (Taylor Creek, in October of 1896). Featured food items
should be a fish fry, fried deer, and swamp cabbage, with the possibility of a wagon train from the parks
to the location of the event. There could be a periodic dress contest, games, rides, and demonstrations
of pioneering trades such as a black smith, tanner, fisherman, and many others.
CCAHC — August 11, 2014 Meeting - Page 2 of 3
V. UNFINISHED BUSINESS CONTINUED
A. Continue discussing what events the CCAHC should host
During the discussion of a location, the Committee considered the current Taylor Creek Park project
that is underway, and requested the matter be placed on the September 8, 2014, agenda to have
Administrator Whitehall and /or Director Allen present the project's scope, time table, and what
could be utilized to incorporate assistance from the CCAHC to bring the project to fruition in
timq to host this event.
The Committee asked whether the City intends to upscale the Annual Lighting Celebration in
December. City Clerk Gamiotea responded, Administrator Whitehall and Director Allen would be the
one to answer this. However, it is her understanding, based on conversations with both, that the City
intends to go above and beyond the normal celebration. The consensus of the Committee was to
include the dedication of the remodeled brick paver front walkway project, and the burying of the time
capsule with this event. This item needs to be discussed further with Mr. Whitehall and Mr. Allen.
Host a Centennial Frolic (dance) on Friday, December 11, the night before the Okeechobee Main
Street Lighted Christmas Parade. The event could showcase square dancing with live music, and
feature a bar- be -que. The suggested location was on the lawn between the Historic Court House and
Judicial Complex, toward the West lawn of the Methodist Church, and closing the portion of Northwest
3rd Avenue between Northwest 2nd and 4th Streets. Clerk Gamiotea was asked to contact County
Administrator Chartier regarding the use of the facilities and coordinate the temporary closing of the
street.
VI. NEW BUSINESS
A. Hear from other groups /organizations
Mr. Tom Peer was in attendance from the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and explained he was sent to
extend to the CCAHC their hospitality to host any events, or participate whenever possible for the
Centennial, as they would be hosting several events in celebration of their 50th Anniversary. Chair Mixon
extended appreciation from the Committee. City Clerk Gamiotea was given his email in order to send
agendas and/or minutes to keep him up to date on issues.
B. Revisit Centennial Slogan, was added to the agenda by Member Enfinger, who explained she discussed
it with fellow English teachers. They have asked the CCAHC to consider changing it from "Our
Pioneering Spirit Continues" to "Our Pioneering Spirit Endures." The use of 'continues' is improper in
this form. Each member voiced their agreement, Member Enfinqer moved to amend the City's
Centennial Slogan by replacing the word continues with endures; seconded by Member Cable.
Motion carried unanimously.
VII. ADJOURNMENT — Chairperson
There being no further items on the agenda, or discussion offered, Chairperson Mixon adjourned the meeting at
6:45 p.m. The next regularly scheduled meeting is August 25, 2014, at 5:30 p.m.
PLEASE TAKE NOTICE AND BE ADVISED that if any person desires to appeal any decision made by the CCAHC with respect to any matter
considered at this proceeding, such interested person will need a record of the proceeding, and for such purpose may need to ensure a
verbatim record of the proceeding is made, which record includes the testimony and evidence upon which the appeal is to be based. Audio
