Social Media Liaison — Member Domer, Tab C No report/update at this time. C. Media Liaison — Member Turgeon, Tab D Member Turgeon advised she recently had an interview with Billy Dean on the local radio station WOKC, and included the CaII for Artists Logo Project. She has another one scheduled the week of September 1. During this interview she will thank the artists that submitted entries, explain the logo was chosen and everyone should attend the official unveiling at the Kick -Off Dinner in January 2015. Chair Mixon suggested, and the majority agreed that the artist and content of the logo not be revealed until the kick -off, if possible. Member Elsken added there is another National Public Radio station, WQCS, from the Treasure Coast, that hosts a program called "Floridays," in which they interview local people to tell their story of past events and memories. Member Turgeon has been in contact with them, and they are very eager and interested in the Centennial projects, it is a matter of contacting them for details. Chair Mixon will contact the station and report back with the details for the next meeting. D. School Liaison — Member Enfinger, Tab E Member Enfinger discussed she has been in contact with County School Board Superintendent Kenworthy, and there is a conflict for the Kick -Off Dinner to be hosted at the Freshman Campus Auditorium on January 9. The school grounds may be used, but not the auditorium, as it will be set up from January 7 through 26 for testing. She asked whether the foyer of the auditorium may be used to access the restrooms, but has not received an answer as of yet. There would be no conflicts for Founders /Heritage Day to be held at the Freshman Campus, tentatively scheduled for October 10. The Centennial Frolic, tentatively scheduled to be hosted at the Methodist Church on December 11 is favorable. However, the neither the sanctuary nor fellowship hall would be accessible. The restrooms located in the Sunday School wing would be available for public use. The use of the lawn and breezeway at the Historic Court House was mentioned during the preliminary discussions, the event liaison, once appointed, will work out the details. E. Historic Time -Line Liaison — Member Cable, Tab F Member Cable reported that she has made progress through 1972 and has it sorted by categories. During the research, she found information regarding the 50th celebration of the City, which they celebrated on July 14th instead of during June to commemorate when the first City Council meeting was held. She also noted there was a "grow a beard contest ". Member Elsken shared she recalls that at the 75th anniversary, they held a beauty pageant for contestants 75 years or older. Chair Mixon instructed Member Cable to send through the Clerk's Office the timeline that has been completed thus far to share with the committee for the next meeting. VI. UNFINISHED BUSINESS — Chair Mixon A. Distribution of Centennial sponsored events among the CCAHC Members to act as the Event Coordinator, Tab J Using the handout discussed at the August 11 meeting, filed under Tab J of the agenda books, as a guideline for appointing of Event Coordinators, the following members were appointed: • Kick -Off Dinner — Member Domer • Scavenger Hunt— Member Turgeon • Bus Tours — Member Cable • Mayor's Gala — Member Enfinger • Centennial Celebration (Birthday Party for the City) — Chair Mixon CCAHC — August 25, 2014 Meeting - Page 2 of 4 VI. UNFINISHED BUSINESS CONTINUED A. Continue with distribution of Centennial Event Coordinators • Founders /Heritage Day — Member Williams was selected by the Committee, however he was absent for consent. This will be determined at the next meeting. • Time Capsule — Member Gaiser • Centennial Frolic — Member Elsken • Brick Pavers — Member Hoover Discussion ensued regarding the brick pavers and Member Hoover volunteered to be the coordinator for the brick paver sales. Also they discussed using the brick pavers as a promotional tool for the other fundraisers. Suggestions were that an incentive for certain sponsorship levels and ticket sales can be incorporated with the brick pavers, such as, buying a certain level of sponsorship or a certain number of tickets, the purchaser would also receive a brick paver. VII. NEW BUSINESS A. Review and consider the Call to Artist Logo entries A total of 29 entries were received from local artists and high school students throughout the community. The identity of the individuals submitting the entry was not disclosed, and each rendering had a number assigned to it. Prior to the start of the meeting, members received a blank score sheet with the instructions to rank each entry on a scale from 1 to 3 points. The score sheets were collected by Chair Mixon to tally and the three with the highest points would be considered the finalist from which the logo would be selected. The following are the results of the tally sheet: Entry No Points Scored Entry No Points Scored Entry No Points Scored Entry No Points Scored 1 22 9 0 17 0 25 11 2 12 10 0 18 0 26 23 3 15 11 20 19 0 27 0 4 0' 12 0 20 12 28 0 5 14 13 0 21 14 29 17 6 19 14 19 22 0 7 0 15 0 23 0 8 0 16 18 24 0 Entry No's 26, 1, and 11 had the highest points and were brought forward for review and discussion. The members discussed what they liked and disliked about each and compiled their suggestion until one was selected, which was No. 26. At this time the name of each entry was revealed, and it was discovered all three were from the same artist. The individual will remain unnamed at this time, in order to build enthusiasm for the official announcement and unveiling at the Kick -Off Dinner. The artist will be asked to attend the next meeting and present the changes /suggestions as discussed: Keep the City Seal on the logo. Remove the palm tree and replace it with a drawing, clip art or photograph of either an agriculture object, pioneering related, or a historical building (that is not a privately owned). Prefer the larger spaced design (as used in Entry No. 11). Remove the word Centennial from the top; add the adopted slogan at the bottom. B. Hear from other groups /organizations Chair Mixon asked whether there were any questions or comments from the public. There were none. He then asked the members for any comments or questions. CCAHC — August 25, 2014 Meeting - Page 3 of 4 VII. NEW BUSINESS CONTINUED B. Continue hearing from other groups /organizations Member Elsken commented the Okeechobee Community Theater (OCT), was very excited and enthused to be a part of the Centennial Celebration, and a letter from Mr. Ron Hayes was distributed prior to the meeting. In his letter he explains the Founders /Heritage Day Event is a good fit for the OCT, and also mentioned their spring production of "Egad, It's Rotten Rodney — or The Salesman's Office Rocker" provides the opportunity to incorporate some olio's (between the scenes skits) referencing to past events in Okeechobee. Member Enfinger suggested commemorative postcards of the logo as a fundraiser idea. Chair Mixon added, the postcards can also include historical photographs, similar to the fundraiser the City of Stuart was successful with. This idea would need to be spear headed by a member, and brought back for further discussion and approval. The discussion then turned to designating certain meetings specifically for the purpose of finalizing the details of the proposed events, scheduled at least 60 days out. 1) Finalizing the Kick -Off Dinner was scheduled for the October 27 meeting. Member Domer asked for direction regarding an established budget so he would have an idea of where to begin with the preparations. Chair Mixon stated he will generalize each event and present a proposed budget at the next meeting. 2) The Scavenger Hunt and the Time Capsule will be discussed at the November 10 meeting. 3) The meetings for the months of November and December were discussed concerning the holidays, and whether there should only be one held each month. However, it was decided to continue with two meetings, but change the dates in case it was necessary for action of items on the upcoming events. Member Cable moved to cancel the November 22 meeting, and to reschedule the date to be November 17, and cancel the December 22 meeting, rescheduling the date to be December 15; seconded by Member Enfinger. Motion carried unanimously. VIII. ADJOURNMENT — Chairperson There being no further items on the agenda, or discussion offered, Chairperson Mixon adjourned the meeting at 7:05 p.m. The next regularly scheduled meeting is September 8, 2014, at 5 :30 p.m. PLEASE TAKE NOTICE AND BE ADVISED that if any person desires to appeal any decision made by the CCAHC with respect to any matter considered at this proceeding, such interested person will need a record of the proceeding, and for such purpose may need to ensure a verbatim record of the proceeding is made, which record includes the testimony and evidence upon which the appeal is to be based. The historical play could be performed several times on that day, allowing people to come in for the next schedbled show, much like in a theme park. There would be no admission charge for the performance. Since that day is so close to the normal November dates for our five - performance fall production for next season, it will require a little "thinking outside the box" to be sure we don't over -tax our performers and crew. I do think it can be worked out. The historical pageant for Pompano Beach's 50th anniversary (in which my entire family participated) was done with a background narrative which prevented the performers from having to memorize lines. They merely "acted out" the scenes with the prepared soundtrack, which could be pre - recorded. It worked very well, and was held over for another night of performance beyond the originally scheduled run. I will present the idea of our participation to our crew, and get their creative juices flowing as well. In addition to the above, you had mentioned that many events which will be held throughout the year can be incorporated into the celebration by tagging them with the "Centennial" indication in their promotion. We would like to work that into the spring production for our current season, "Egad, It's Rotten Rodney- or- The Salesman's Office Rocker, "which is scheduled for March 20, 21, 27 (at 8:00 pm) and 28 (at 2:00 and 8:00 pm), 2015. It is an old - fashioned "boo the villain" melodrama, which is set in the period in which the city of Okeechobee was founded. There are opportunities to include "olios" (between the scenes skits) which are an added attraction, usually unrelated to the story line of the show. Some of these olios could possibly bear some reference to past events in Okeechobee. Of additional interest is that this professipnally- published play was written by David F. Scott, the father of Cathy Womble, a long -time hard- working member of the OCT. Although Mr. Scott is not a local resident, he has told us that if hisl health allows he plans to come to Okeechobee for the performances. If there is any criteria that the Centennial Committee requires to allow us to call this "a Centennial Event," please let me know. Thanks again for giving the Okeechobee Community Theatre the chance to be a part of the celebration!
