1964-09-08 Regular904 September 8, 1964 The City Council c~ the City of Okeechobee, Florida, met in regular session at the City Hall the above date at 7:00 P. M. with the following present: President McCrocklin, CounciLmen Gardner, Hunt,~ Walker ~ with Attorney Hendry and Clerk Spivey. Minutes of the meetings held August 4 and 5, 1964, were read and approved as read. The Council authorized the execution of documents to Flood Control District permit #5086 to relocate existin~ 14 inch water intake main. Due to t~ats of "Hurricane Dora" the Council adjourned to meet Tuesday, September 15, 1964 at 5:1% P. M. CITY ~T~RK September 15, 1964 The City Council of the City of Okeechobee, Florida, met in regular adjourned session on the above date at the City Hall at 5:15 P. M. with the followtn~ present: Mayor Mack, President Mc Crocklin, Councilmen Gardner, ~unt, Walker and Watford with Attorney Hendry and Clerk Spivey. William ~arko representing Quarter Back Club and Jaycee's appeared and presented obscene literature being displayed cn local magazine racks and requested the corporation of the City in having the above removed f~m local businesses. After discussion the Council agreed for Mayor Mack to instruct the Police to request the store owners displaying said literature to remove them from their racks. Councilman Walker presented bid from Kerby Electric in the amount of $2,237'90 for electrical work and material in transferring to 400 AMP - 480 volt service at water plant. Councilman Gardner moved fo accept the bid from Kerby Electric in the amount of $2,237.90 as per bid and authorized the exchange of 60 HF open dripproof motor for a 100 HP 220/440 volt, open dripproof motor and new impeller as per letter dated August 21, 1964 from Allis-Chalmers Manufacturing Company, in the amount of $515.00/seconded by Councilman Walker and unanimously carried. Councilman Walker discussed the condition of water department mowing machine, stating it would cost $163.o0 to ~ebuild present mower and the cost of a new machine $240.00 with a $40.00 discount. Councilman Gardnsr moved to purchase new mowing machine at $200.00 seconded by Councilman Walker and unanumously carr ~ed. A letter was read from Markham Brothers regarding water pressure at canning plant. The Council a agreed to advise Markham Brothers that/larger pump was to be installed at the water plant and they felt this would ~elp their situation. Councilman Walker discussed the City taking over Mc Carthy water line instructing Clerk to~ arrange meeting With Dan Mc Carthy to discuss details and complete transaction. ~~ Councilman Watford reported on meeting he attended regarding Supplemental Federal Financial Assistance for cities to defray costs of public damage inflicted by hurricane Cle0. Fire Chief Godwin requested the Council to commence l.. the $25.00 monthly donation to the Okee- chobee Volunteer Firemen's ~ssociatiom. Councilman Hunt moved to grant request amd to begin $25.00 monthly donation to Okeechobee Volunteer Firemen's Association retroactive to June 1, 1964, seconded by Councilman Walke~ and unanumbusly carried. Councilman Hunt moved to accept and approve the 1963 City of Okeechobee audit as prepared by Mc Alpin and Heath, Certified Public Accountants and to employ said firm for the year 1965,, seconded by Councilman Gardner and carried.
