1974-08-29 Recessed After discussion the Council referred matter to Attorney Curren for investigation and to report at the ne×t meeting for a possible solution. Attorney Curren reported that the agreement between Okeechobee Se~.ch ~ater AssociaLion and the City of Okeechobee specified a written notice on intention to raise rate.~ one yea~' prior to chan~[in~. Councilman Hunt moved to authorize Atborney Curren to notify Ok,=ech,~bee Beach Water by letter infor~ng them thaL the City of Okeechobee intends to chan~e the wholesale ~atue of water fur~shed to the Association, seconded by Councilman Betts and carried. A letter from the Okeechobee Chamber of Co~erce was read infor~ng the Council that the Better Businer~s ~vision of the Char~ber of Commerce broughv to their attention that the City of Okeechobee ta~.:i service in Okeechobee is questionable, due to the fact -they had no meters nor do they post a~~ rates and requested the rity to adopt an ordinance requiring taxis to have meters and or post rates in each vehicle. ~e Council instructed the Clerk to make copies of the Citys present ordinance ~ow)rning taxis for each councilman for further study. Preliminary work was accomplished on the 197h-7~ General budget and the water and sewer budget. '~e Council reces~ed to meet August 29, 197~ at 6:30 P.M. Clif Bet~..,~ Jr. Also present were: City Clerk, S~ndra Bennett and Director of Public Works, L. C. Fortner, Jr. The City Clerk presemted several applications for part time help in the City Clerk's office. President Bur',~- brouqht out that he felt a better solution could be found and suggested further study. Dir~,ctor Fnrtner presented for the Councils consideration a request to remove the Street Depar~,menv re :pon.sibility from his supervision and have ch~ge of only the Water and Sewer System. No action takc~n. '~e Police Department and Fire Department u~forms was discussed. It was suggested that ~ ~e City ~urcnase six unifo~s for each patrolman, ~dio Dispatcher and Fire man and pay the cost ~ of D~ Clea~n~ the u~forms. Action postponed u~til further study could be made.
