AN ORDINANCE DECLARING HOUSES OF ILL FAME, HOUSES OF
PROSTITUTION4, AND GAMBLING AND DISORDERLY HOUSES A NUISANCE
AND/OR NUISANCES AND PROVIDING FOR. THE CLOSING THEREOF;

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
OKEECHOBEE, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1. It is the opinion of the City Council of the City
of Okeechobee, Florida, that Houses of 111 Fame, Houses of
prostitution*, gambling and disorderly houses are dangerous to
the public morals, public health, public safety and general
welfare of the residents end citizens of the City cf Okeechobee,
Florida, and are a public nuisance when and if located within
the corporate limits of the City of Okeechobee, Florida.
It shall be and is hereby made unlawful for any person,
pereons, firm or corporation to own cr operate a house or houses,
of it fame, or house or houses of prostitution or gambling or
disorderly houses within the corporate limits of the City of
Okeechobee, Florida, and such houses be and the same are hereby
declared nuisances.
SECTION 2. The Chief of Police of the City cf Okeechobee, Florida,
is hereby empowered and it is made his duty to remove the inmates
or tenants of a house of ill fame, house of prostitution, gambling
or disorderly house therefrom, and to close and bar the doors and
windows of any such house.
SECTION 3. The frequenting of a house, having the reputation of
being a house of ill fame or a house of prostitution, by men who
do not reside at such house, between the hours of ten o'clock
P. M. and Five o'clock A. M. shall be prima facie evidence that
it is a house cf ill fame cr a house cf prostitution; and the
frequenting of such houses by :ten as set out in this section
hereinbefore, when seen by any Police Officer of the City of
Okeechobee, Florida, shall ire considered a breach of the peace
in the presence of the officer and authorize and empower such
officer to arrest all persons is such house or houses as inmates
thereof without a warrant, and shall authorize and empower such
officer to enter such house for the purpose of slaking such arrest
or arrests.
SECTION 4. Any person, persons, firm or corporation, violating
the provisions of this ordinance shall, on conviction thereof,
be punished by a fine not exceeding $100.00 or by imprisonment
not exceeding three months or both such fine and imprisonment,
at the discretion of the Mayor of said City.
S:CTIO? 5. All Ordinances or narts of ordinances in conflict
herewith be, and t he same are hereby repealed.
SECTION 6. This Ordinance shall take effect immediately upon
its nas age and approval by the Mayor.
Read a first time in open regular session of the City
Council of the City of Okeechobee, Florida, and by unanithous
consent passed to a second reading; read a. second tie and by
unanimous consent passed to a third and final reading. Read
a third time and passed in open session of the City Council of
the City of 0keechobee, Florida, this day of March, A. D.
