AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE LEVY AND COLLECTION OF TAXES
FOR THE YEAR 193? FOR THP CITY OF OKEECHOBEE, FLORIDA
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
OKEECHOBEE, FLORIDA.
Section 1.
That the City of Okeechobee, Florida, hereby levies
a tax of 42 mills on each dollar valuation of real and personal
property within the corporate limits of Okeechobee, Florida,
for the year 193 ?. Such taxes shall be assessed and collected
in the manner provided by law, PROVIDED HOWEVER that no tax
shall be assessed against homesteads having a valuati8iiVf
$5,000.00 and less, and homesteads having a valuation of more
than $5,000.00 shall not be taxed on the first $5,000.00 as here-
inafter provided.
Section &
That nineteen (19) mills of such tax shall be used
for general City purposes and shall be assessed for the general
fund of said City. That ten (10) mills of such tax shall be
assessed for the payment and satisfaction of that certain judgment
obtained by Yeomants Mutual Life Insurance Company against the
said City of Okeechobee, Florida, said Judgment issued out of
the V. S. District Court of the Southern District of Florida,
a copy of which is recorded in the office of the Clerk of Circuit
Court of Okeechobee County, Florida; that eight (8) mills of
such tax shall be used for and is Lade pursuant to an Alternative
Writ of Mandamus issued out of the Circuit Court of Okeechobee
County, Florida, on the day of October, A. D. 193 ?, on the
relation of H. J. Rice; which said Alternative Writ of Mandamus
requires the City of Okeechobee to include a sufficient amount
and /or tax levy to pay off and discharge the indebtedness of
said City to said Relator, and the City shall make said Assessment
against all real and personal property, including homesteads,
within the said City; that five (5) mills of such tax shall
be used for payment of the balance due on that certain Judgment
of the Pauly Jail Building Company, a Corporation, which said
Judgment is of record in the office of the Clerk of Circuit Court
of Okeechobee County, Florida.
Section 3.
It shall be the duty of the Tax Collector and City
Clerk to divide the proceeds as received from said taxes as
aforesaid, into the funds set out in the preceding section and
keep full and correct account of same as they may be directed
by the City Council.
Section 4.
All Ordinances or parts of Ordinances in conflict herewith
be and the same are hereby repealed.
Section 5.
This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect
immediately upon its passage by the City Council and approval
by the Mayor.
